I get this error when I start TF2:
Unable to initialize DirectSoundCapture. You won't be able to speak to other player.

Any fixes?

If your using a jack to plug in your mic, your jack could be broken, try plugging it into a new hole, that seemed to fix it for someone else who had this issue.

I'm using a AT2020+ USB mic
It works completely fine in mumble or in other programs except TF2

My mic used to be recognized as "AT2020+" but now it shows as "USB PnP Sound Device" in recording devices after installing the UNI Xonar driver.
I don't know if this is the problem or not, and I tried all the USB ports on my PC alr.

exiting out of mumble before launching tf2 got rid of this error for me and allowed my in-game voice to work

I fixed it.
You have to uncheck "Allow applications to take exclusive control of this device" under the advanced tab of the microphone.
It seems that mumble will take exclusive control of my mic. Don't know if there are any benefits of doing so.
