Alternatives to tf2center for "new players"?

Hiya! I've been playing on pubs for a while and looking at the current state of casual mode and how community servers are either on life support (example: CritSandvich) or are only active at later times of the day (FITH, or even gshock), I've been recently thinking about getting into comp (specifically 9v9) so I thought: "Why not ask a competitive tf2 forum?". However, most guides that I've seen are outdated as they feature sites that have been down for years (example: tf2lobby) and they usually recommend tf2center despite the reputation of that site being...well...you know.

So if any of you guys know of a way to get into 9v9 lobbies/pugs through a site different from tf2center, that would be great. Though if it is easier to just get into 6v6, I would be fine with that as well. (I'm not interested into getting into teams atm)

PS. Please don't be that guy that goes "What a shitty thread" on posts made by 'new players', no seriously, that already happened to me once on my second or third thread.

For highlander there's not much aside from tf2center/tf2stadium as far as I know. Most highlander pug/mix groups die fast but you could look around and maybe there's still some active ones in NA.

for 6v6 this is definitely worth checking out http://steamcommunity.com/groups/na6v6newbiemix

MixChamp is for (lower level) 6s.
TF2Stadium is an alternative to the lobby system, and it includes HL.

Tobfor 6v6 this is definitely worth checking out http://steamcommunity.com/groups/na6v6newbiemix

This group is active, and great for people fresh from pubs and looking to play competitive.

While true, it doesn't really have an effect on actually using the site.

i think it's more that the people who run it are cunts and people don't want to support them by using their site

expecting all downvotes in the world but i would rather cope with (or, for that matter, just not get around) stupid admins than wait for tf2s lobby to fill up for the whole day or monitoring the thread that guy bumps every once in a while to play one or two games; i just wanna say that for someone who ONLY wants to play lobbies, tf2center is pretty much the only option available until that player grows and gets to play pugchamp or something

since you like lobbies so much, you can help spread the word to friends as a start, to fill up TF2S. Also, there's MixChamp, which is not at the level of PugChamp.

Try playing on sites like tf2stadium which contains both 9v9 and 6v6 and the rest of the game modes tf2center has. Unfortunately games on this site very rarely occur but it's really the only other site for people to play 9v9. There are many sites for 6v6 however such as mixchamp and pugchamp. Mixchamp (usually happens everyday from the afternoon to after midnight) is a site for lower level players with a picking system in which participants get auto drafted into a game. Pugchamp (usually happens everyday from afternoon to after midnight) is a site where many of the current best players in tf2 play on with a picking system in which captains can decide which players to pick up for their team for the game. I would recommend that you do not participate in the drafting on this site because you will likely not be picked for the game because you are new. Another thing that you can do is join a pug (pick up game) group. These are steam groups in which pugs are hosted by admins and/or owners of the group. Here is a thread with a list of pug groups that you can join

Erraticsince you like lobbies so much, you can help spread the word to friends as a start, to fill up TF2S. Also, there's MixChamp, which is not at the level of PugChamp.

1) not everyone wants to spend their time 'spreading the word', some people just want to play the game
2) i personally tried my best at spreading the word: getting my friends to play it; giving links to whatever new players i encounter and who were wondering where they can start competitive; browsing it and joining in and waiting for it to fill up at the time when i still played the game: none of that helped and the site is still empty

i'm sorry but if that takes that long to spread information about the 'new' site which is what, half a year old? (correct me if i wrong) you either do something wrong or people just don't want to or don't care about it as much as you do

The admins there are known for being really immature and treating people that use the site terrible basically. Also the quality of the games aren't too good either.

You could try to make your own mixes by just getting 11 friends interested in comp as well and work your way up from there. Not sure if it would be practical for you though.
