Also, is anyone else disappointed that Snoke is CGI? I want practical effects for the big baddy :(

If Snoke turns out to be Plagueis, the CGI for Andy Serkis' character would be necessary. If not, I don't really have a problem with it. A CGI villain would be pretty neat, especially such an odd creature like Snoke.

Was kinda disappointed with the characterization. Finn's a dude who spent his entire life with the First Order, was presumably brainwashed (?), and then decides that killing people is too much for him in his first battle. Which is fine. What I was less fine with was, not 30 minutes later, when he starts whooping and hollering as he guns down his former brethren. I'm not asking for him to be portrayed in a realistic manner like someone who's escaping a cult they spent their entire life in, that's not really what Star Wars is about, but some consistency would be nice. He's also weird in that he's shown as being pretty competent with a blaster, manages to at least wound Ren in a lightsaber duel, but is also played for laughs and loses a lightsaber duel to a stormtrooper.

From the beginning I was expecting Obi-Wan Solo to be killed by his son, but the actual scene was kinda disappointing. Ren's portrayed as someone who lacks control over his emotions, someone who lashes out at everything around him when met with failure. But during the bridge scene, it seemed like he was emotionally manipulating his father before he kills Solo. Ren doesn't strike me as someone subtle enough for that sort of play. It's possible it wasn't manipulation, that Ren changed his mind at the last minute and genuinely fell to the dark side in that moment, but the fact that he gets his shit wrecked in the next battle by two completely untrained people doesn't reinforce the new-found power/determination he should have after committing.

Visuals were stunning though, and I was fine with it being a rehash of Ep. 4. I'm not sure if I'm getting harder and harder to please, or if I had seen this movie 10 years ago I'd have the same complaints

Anyone else feel like they just threw episode 3-6 into one movie and called it a day?
  • Kylo Ren, kills all jedi in training (like anakin in ep3)
  • cgi palpatine leads bad guy in a black mask
  • bad guy is good guys family
  • rey finds a droid with the map to luke on a desert planet (like luke buying r2 with the deathstar plans)
  • best jedi hiding out somewhere (ep 5 when yoda chills in dagobah)
  • to beat the death star (planet whatever) they have to deactivate the shield (like they did on endor ep6)
    and more.
My speculations from the movie:
I think kylo ren is gonna go from whiny emo fag to darthvader next movie. I dont buy for a second he died, its like anakin losing to obiwan and dying in the fire lava in ep3 but he still survives to become vader.

I think rey is lukes daughter (maybe han and leias, but unlikely compared to luke imo). she has shit tons for force, leia looking at her before she went to find luke like shes some sort of family. the way luke was staring at her at the end, + the flashbacks of luke with r2, and her saying come back with a ship leaving in the distance.

overall i really liked it and ive seen it twice, but the part where han dies you could just see coming from a mile away.
I wouldnt rate it over ep 4 or 5 in anyway other than effects and cgi

chewie is the best character in the whole series anyone who says otherwise is dumb.

It's a joke about how Han Solo's role in Ep 7 is basically identical to Kenobi's in Ep 4.
