Medic LFT Open (Backup/Sub)

Hello everyone!

So this may be a bit of a long shot since the season (ESEA/CEVO) has already begun but no harm in trying, right? I’m an aspiring medic main looking to sub/backup for an open team, in order to surround myself with better players and get some much needed experience. I’ve been trying to give UGC a chance but things are a bit chaotic over there and people don’t seem to take it as seriously as ESEA/CEVO. I am not a complete newb to tf2/competitive, and have about 270 hours of game play as a medic, a fair amount of lobbies, and scrims/ringing for matches.

While I might not bring a lot of experience to the table, I’m a very fast learner, I take criticism well and I’m very reliable when it comes to availability and scheduling. I am continuously trying to improve my overall game play so hopefully effort counts for something! In the end, I’m hoping to just find a good team/group of people to play with consistently. So even if I'm not made an official backup, I would just enjoy the chance to surround myself with better players and improve.

So if this peaks your interest at all, please send me a message here or add me on steam.

Thank you,

-Cbunz

I've played with cbunz and for someone who is pretty new to competitive they play with a solid understanding of the game. And a med main who actively tries to learn more is always valuable.

A solid backup for a low-mid Open team if your team is willing to give pointers to someone who is eager to get better quickly. Try this nerd out!

From what I heard from teammates, she cared more about winning scrims/matches (tried to get Invite players to join her UGC team?) than improving with them. She was apparently bad tempered, couldn't handle criticism and whined about odd things (going too fast when healing Scouts on quick-fix??)

Now I did have the chance to coach her during Newbie Mixes, so taking from that experience she appeared more pleasant. Gameplay wise she was fine, was eager to comm and took advice well.

She should be a good addition to a low Open team who needs a backup as she seems to be taking steps to improve, there's just the attitude to look out for. No reason not to give her a shot though, I might've simply gotten the wrong impression from people.

Pretty unfair to post rumors in a LFT thread, especially of a newcomer. Why post anything you didn't witness firsthand?

From playing with cbunz in lobbies, she's an eager, improving med who will do well on a low/mid open team. She is actively trying to improve and she likes to win (is that a bad thing?). I've never seen her rage/whine/complain about anything + she has a cute voice. Pick her up.

Aside from knowing "Cuddle Buns, cuddle, bunny, cbunz etc" from mutual friends and acquaintances, I think she has potential for improvement as a medic (I have watched her scrim with her old team, as I main med too). She's great with calling where the uber charge is at, but could improve on knowing what the advantage is like and calling that too. Albeit, most times I've tried to reach out to her in giving feedback and offering help, she acts standoffish and reserved to who she wants help from; I ended up removing her from my friends list because of that reason.

On a side note: the past two times I joined her mumble and decided to spec the team scrims, I only observed that her negative attitude definitely affected some of the team. Furthermore, maybe she was going through some things those two separate times, but I would recommend that she reconsider her approach to conversing about things in an honest and gentle way to make progress within the team.

Good luck!

So I was actually in a team with cbunz for quite some time and she improved really quickly in a short amount of time. She went from a pub med to a really decent medic that would be a good low-mid open backup/sub. She's got a lot to learn but she's awesome at learning quickly.

I kind of agree with split on the attitude bit, actually. She had a great one at first but once she started getting stressed over things her attitude got somewhat worse. Can't speak for the rest of the team but I ended up dreading practice days since I knew there would be some bad moods if we didn't win. Sure, I hate losing but it shouldn't have affected the team as much as it did. As for the whining bit, we all whine about things so it shouldn't cause too much trouble. I don't really agree that she is great at taking criticism, but that's just something else she needs to work on.

Saying that, she's definitely not leader material, but she would be a great addition to any team that is stress free. She's a fun and nice person, a joy to have around in a stress free environment. Good luck.

Oh man. Where to begin.

Firstly, I didn't quit because we weren't winning. Winning matches/scrims was not my priority. Having a consistent team to play with was my priority. And in the few months I tried to keep a team together, I just had so many people come and go, each with different reasons as to why they couldn't play anymore, mostly personal/scheduling kind of things. It's very hard to 'grow with my team' when my entire roster keeps changing each week. And your comment about "trying to get invites on my team" ... During the chaos that was my team roster, there were talks with ONE particular invite player who said he'd join on a class that wasn't even his main. The idea died after a few days, and we found another player.

Most of the complaints you heard about me from my former teammate were from a particularly bad day where many things went wrong before a pretty disorganized scrim in which afterwards (and during) people I didn't know joined my mumble to offer advice. Now I'm not against taking criticism, but there's a time and a place for that. And at that point in time I'd have rather just talked it over with my team but instead I had an overly full mumble with people I didn't even know telling me what to do better (when I had a team that was newly formed and using a ringer at the time).

And the comment about the quick fix...My team had asked me to go quick fix, a weapon I'm not very familiar with, and I kept jumping with my soldiers because they wouldn't call when they were jumping so I didn't disconnect in time. So I mentioned that in chat, as well as not being used to moving so fast when connected to scouts (in response to why I was having some issues that I normally wouldn't have as a medic). As I recall everyone was a little 'on edge' that scrim due to not playing that map together before and on top of that, playing a higher div team whilst being a new team (we were not even close to being comfortable playing with each other). We all complained a little that scrim, it was definitely not just me.

Lastly, as I recall, ducky as one of the people in my mumble channel after that particular scrim (and I had seen her in there maybe once or twice before), and at that point in time I was very quiet when they were all giving us advice which is why I probably seemed standoffish (since it was just a bad night). Although I would just like to clarify that we were never friends on steam, I just knew her as my former teammate's friend.

I don't really know what else to say, other than everyone has bad days and perhaps I could've handled it better in the moment. But overall I'd like to think I'm a fairly positive person who just let stress get to them for a short period of time. I think it is unfair to assume all of that about me and I just wanted to clear a few things up.

We were friends on Steam for a couple weeks (I added you because you said you were accepting invites for people to play with)... I was the medic main who offered to lobby with you and help guide you through it. She doesn't even remember me. :'(

I'm sorry, I honestly don't remember. I just remember you joining my mumble one day with a particularly memorable name and being introduced to me as Puggle's best friend. If we were friends at one time it must have been awhile ago.

They aren't exactly rumors considering those are direct accounts from teammates, I'm don't think I'm speculating at all. In my one experience with cbunz outside of Newbie Mixes it reflected negatively as she didn't respond to advice and promptly cancelled playing for the night and left after losing one scrim, but again she might have been having a bad night with other things, I said right in the post to give her a shot, as maybe I happened to get the wrong impression of her.

But nah you have a better view from playing lobbies with her.

To be fair, YOU don't have an experience with me outside Newbie Mixes, you have someone's account of their experience with me...And like I said before. It was a bad night, in which not only did I not have a full team again, but I had at least 3 random people I didn't know invited to my mumble during/post scrim to give me and my team advice. Had I been warned/told about it, I may have reacted differently. But for a brand new team that is using a ringer on a map they've never played together against a higher div team...I didn't need 3 random people telling me what was wrong with that situation. And to clarify, I didn't exactly 'cancel'. Our second scrim of the night was cancelled by the OTHER team, and I turned down an offer of another scrim by another team. I even told my team they could play if they wanted to find someone to ring for me, but no one said anything/did anything about it. I can't make every decision for them.

And I don't really appreciate the attitude towards Lauren ... she would definitely have a much "better view" seeing as she's had actual (and multiple) first hand experiences with me (other than one newbie mix).

But yeah, arguing on the internet is stupid and I'm sick of defending myself to people I don't even know. I appreciate the feedback in any case.

Well, I'm almost certain the people you claim you "don't know" wouldn't just make things up in a tftv thread about you. Where could it be coming from?

You made a post about looking for a team, and some of us know things about you just from being around you here and there, whether you realize it or not.

Yeah, this community is small and everyone seems to be connected by mutual friends, and everyone seems to cross paths at some point. I could just never see myself posting on someone’s LFT thread because one of my friends had complained about them once before. It wouldn't be my place to say anything about a friend of a friend...

But this thread is devolving quickly and so I’m just going to stop trying to defend myself.

Thanks for the fun memories :3

OrdooThe fuck is happening in this thread

I'll give you the long and short of this thread, Mr. Ordoo.

cbunz, an up and coming medic, makes a thread lft. raxozellet, being a nice person, comments to say she's solid. sweet! Then Split, a gamer who does not know cbunz well, comes in. He starts talking about cbunz based entirely on information he got from someone else (problem 1). Then John "The Pastebin Bandit" Milter makes an equally stupid (but satirical) comment as Split, bringing attention to how Split sounds like that chick from Ferris Bueller. Shortly after John posts, lauren, again, another person who does not know cbunhz well, criticizes Split for putting her down without even knowing her (problem 2). lauren then proceeds to talk her up without knowing her**, but that's not really important. Split then edits his post to include the third paragraph, where he backpedals really really hard*.

Then h3ll0ducky and Pugglebunz come in and say some nice things but also validate some of Split's claims about her attitude. This thread gets pretty weird here because it feels like no one wants to call anyone out. However, feeling obligated to respond to ducky and Pugglebunz, cbunz decides to attempt damage control. It works for the most part, and then she and ducky try to figure out if they were friends or not. Overall the threads pretty good at this point, if not just for the fact that everyone's username is super cute.

Then the thread just gets awful again. Split (reminder, does not know cbunz) comes back to argue with lauren (reminder, also does not know cbunz**). Split claims that he has the better idea of her play from newbie mixes than lauren does from lobbying - however, since both of their opinions of cbunz is good, I have no idea what they're arguing about really. lauren makes another post telling Split how wrong he is, but she edits it out because she realizes the argument was silly from the start. cbunz then posts telling Split lauren was actually right, but it seems the +frag gods don't agree. As we all know, +frags are the real deciders of arguments on TFTV, not logical thought.

And so here we are.

To recap:

Split doesn't know cbunz, but he posts anyway.
lauren doesn't know cbunz, but she posts anyways**.
Split and lauren argue.
h3ll0ducky kinda knows cbunz, she posts.
Pugglebunz is really the only person in this thread to know cbunz, but her post is largely ignored by all involved.

*Split's backpedal was in his post originally, my bad.
**lauren and cbunz are friends outside the lobbies, my bad 2.

Do you know cbunz, Ordoo? Hell, I don't even know cbunz. This thread is just hilarious.

This thread is just hilarious.

cbunzOrdooThe fuck is happening in this thread
Oh ya know, went looking for a team and ended up defending my character/actions against people I don't even know. Is this not a common occurrence ?

yeah that's rule #1 on the internet, attempting to defend yourself only makes people dislike you more

For the sake of the thread though, from the few lobbies i've played with this gamr chick, she's seemed pretty decent at the game and definitely communicated well for a medic or any new player, with some more experience she'd probably have potential to be good.

AloSecOrdooThe fuck is happening in this threadI'll give you the long and short of this thread, Mr. Ordoo.

cbunz, an up and coming medic, makes a thread lft. raxozellet, being a nice person, comments to say she's solid. Shortly after John posts, lauren, again, another person who does not know cbunhz well, criticizes Split for putting her down without even knowing her (problem 2). lauren then proceeds to talk her up without knowing her, but that's not really important. Split then edits his post to include the third paragraph, where he backpedals really really hard.

Haha. This is a pretty accurate summary. I'd just like to point out that Lauren and I are friends outside of those few lobbies so she does know me.

When I first posted, I was fairly certain my lft post would just go unnoticed for the most part but man was I wrong. Oh well.

I had that third paragraph in there from the start because no matter what I've heard she appeared a capable medic and deserved a shot, the only reason I edited the post was to shorten it; I don't know why you're assuming I added another paragraph to backpedal when all you see is that I edited the thing. I only mentioned the attitude since it had been brought up to me by multiple people in the past but wasn't mentioned in the thread, and personality is obviously a big thing when looking to pick someone up for your team.

I think you're a cool guy Alosec and my own experiences with cbunz have been okay overall so I apologize if I set the wrong tone, I never intended for my post to come across as a callout or anything like that.
