Since the charity stream got so much love I figure this is a good time to bring this up. I let universities use my cpu and graphics card, through boinc, to do projects like a drug search for Leishmaniasis, or conquering cancer (sadly these units are running out quickly, they didn't expect to get them all done so fast), and looking for pulsars. There are a lot more things you can do with this just go through the project list and find something you like.

World Community Grid is a project I think everyone should do since it researches a lot of different things: http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/
I also do Einstein@home which is the one that looks for pulsars: http://einstein.phys.uwm.edu/

But its not just limited to that, I said in the first paragraph to just look through the project list and find something you like and I hope some of you do find something to do. It's always nice to feel like you're doing something when you're not actually doing anything. Thank you.

I do science with my computer, those links tell you how^.

I forgot to link to the publication page in case any of you were skeptical that these people weren't just stealing your computer power:
http://boinc.berkeley.edu/wiki/Publications_by_BOINC_projects

The program also tracks how much science you did by way of awarding points for any tasks that you did.

project points page (separate by project)

It isn't pretty, but it works well and it tells you what it can.

I'll try and answer any questions I think I'm capable of.

edit: I made this post because there are more things than money we can donate.

That's kind of awesome. My first thought was "I wonder if it works as a stability test for overclocks"

I've been an avid supporter of distributed computing projects for the last few years, and have dedicated many machines and GPUs just for the cause. I love accumulating computer hardware, so anything I stop using essentially runs distributed computing applications until it is sold or dies.

WCG stats: http://stats.free-dc.org/stats.php?page=user&proj=bwcg&name=652421
F@H stats: http://folding.extremeoverclocking.com/user_summary.php?s=&u=479212

I'm going to be sad when Help Conquer Cancer runs out of new GPU work within a month, considering I have an HD 7970, 2x HD 7950s and 2x HD 7770s doing that, but there might be new projects in the future. :)

If this thread gets a good enough response I'll make a boinc-wide "Team Fortress 2" team.
