hudlayout.res question

So I edited the default hud to my liking pretty much, but the only thing I can't figure out how to edit is the kill feed. I added a hudlayout.res and only have the huddeathnotices part in there. Basically it looks like this:

"resource/hudlayout.res"
{
huddeathnotices
{
stuff
}
}

I'm pretty sure the code is right because when I add it, the killfeed is the way I want it, but other things mess up. For example, the spectatorguihealth is gone or halfway off the screen. Or maybe the damage numbers will be gone. It's weird cuz I will delete hudlayout.res, restart tf2, and everything will be fine. Then I'll put back hudlayout.res and something different will be wrong.

If anybody might have any idea as to what I can do to fix this, I'd appreciate it. tanks.

As stated above, you can't simply choose to edit a part of file. You either leave it as the default, or use your hudlayout.res that has everything set to defaults other than huddeathnotices.

HMMMMMMMMMMM.. okay. I had a feeling that might've been it but wasn't sure if it was something else. Thanks. So just to confirm, now I have to use the GFscape to extract and then edit correct?

GCFScape should work, yes.
