I find it really hard to care about any multiplayer game with frequent DLC map packs and that stupid level up to unlock shit mechanic. I love how multiplayer gaming has regressed in quality this generation due to that crap.

you know, a big thing I miss from older FPS games is being alone. Modern games always give you a partner or squad or something. This is kind of a general statement I guess, but now's as good a time as any to mention it. I miss games letting me be alone. (it's not like pushing a button to have someone else shoot something for you was ever a riveting gameplay feature in the first place). Just me, maybe? I never really hear others mention this.

The gap between BF3 and BF4 will be 2 years if it does release in the fall, not 1. Battlefield has never been annual.

yeah I'm pretty on the level with this guy. But for my assertion, I'd broaden the scope from "being away from other dudes" to "being away from any humans, virtual or real". I don't mean everyone has to be dead, but, I'd like it if some games did at least something along the lines of Half-Life 1, some dudes are here and there but they don't stick around or stay alive for more than a few rooms. like Metroid Prime,System Shock 2 or Shadow of the Colossus. that tier of loneliness is just the best and I wish more games had it.

Call of Duty has been annual, but there are still 2 developers that release a game every 2 years. I guess EA is going to be doing the same thing with Battlefield and MoH. I'm kind of sad about the path MoH has taken and it's basically a dumb version of Battlefield.

Battlefield 3 was / is awesome. Hopefully they have a spectator mode in BF4, and battle recorder so the game can be played professionally. FPS gaming needs some more presence in eSports at the moment.

I find it interesting that the only reason to buy this game when you already have BF3 is better graphics yet the gun's viewmodel is so huge that you pretty much lose 1/4 of your screen. When they're walking through those long areas where no enemies appear does he really need to hold the gun up to the point where its tip is almost touching the crosshair? None of his allies are. Get it out of the way and let me watch the movie.

BF2 had a decent competitive scene IIRC.

BF3 had one as well, but not as big as BF2 from what I've seen.

Here's a really fascinating video on competitive play in BF3 and the issues facing it currently.
