so i'm in the process of getting my new build completed and the only thing i'm undecided on is the nic. i've heard the killer ethernet nics perform well, but does anyone here have any experience or can you attest to whether or not they're worth more than say some $30 pci nic on newegg?

that's what i was thinking, with my limited knowledge of networking it seems kinda... impossible? probably using the wrong word.

I mean technically we're talking like a 5ms improvement but that isn't relevant

This was a pretty convincing review that an EVGA forum member did a long while ago. I never decided to put in the cash for one myself though. There was usually something better to pay for.

I've never really seen the point of them. The technology available to the companies that make those cards aren't any better than the companies that make motherboards. Unless you have an absolutely shitty motherboard, or maybe your motherboard is broken, I wouldn't see any reason to get one.

If you need an external NIC, Intel ones will do fine.

PCI-E
PCI

I'm actually quite curious if there still are CPU usage reduction like the benchmark like above says

They are kind of interesting with their different network stack(no winsock), looks like it is most useful when you are using alot of bandwidth like streaming or large pubs, where your cpu is bottlenecked or network traffic might be lower priority than game processing. Otherwise I wouldn't expect this to lower your ping much at all.

On ebay you can get one for ~$40, cheap enough to try out and see if its useful.
