I have a 60hz monitor and Im thinking of buying a 120hz. I was wondering if it is a fair comparison to make if I watch a 30fps and 60fps video on a 60hz monitor. I can see a notable difference in how smooth it is. Is getting a 120hz monitor similar to that? idk if that made sense lol.

No. Not at all.
Just, run down to your local gaming oriented computer store and stare blankly at the demo computer, it'll probably (if not then go somewhere else) have a 120hz monitor hooked up to it. Compare that with a mental image of your own monitor.
In any case, I think it's worth the investment assuming you're going to be looking at your monitor for extended periods of times or if you want to improve your tracking or something.

Because it's all based upon opinion and there's no "correct" answer, my best suggestion would to just try out a 120hz monitor in person to see if you like it or not. You probably will since they're absolutely fucking amazing and there's honestly no reason not to get one if you have the money.

To me, the difference between 30 and 60 feels about the same as the difference between 60 and 120.

You can see twice the information on screen per second. It makes a huge difference if you aim with tracking, I find it impossible to track below 80fps. Yea feels about the same as the difference between 30-60.

I don't have one. I went to try one and it was set at 60Hz.

I guess in many cases you will just have to believe that it's better and order one.

Do you play scout?
I don't know your money situation but chances are it's not worth it for you if you don't play scout.

I have a 120hz display, but i set at 60hz when on desktop and 100hz while gaming, can't see the difference between 100 and 120, and also helps my motion sickness since i'm prone to it. Been gaming with 100hz since geforce2 times, feels great

the difference between 60hz and 120hz is surely instantly noticed, but not exactly like 30-60fps video, these makes the motion seem kinda "accelerated", i personally can't enjoy a 60fps playback/streaming, same with 120hz+ interpolated displays

I had to go back from my 120 hz and my hitscan is worse without it. It isnt that noticeable on soldier however.

120Hz + a new computer shot me from IM to invite. 120Hz was probably more noticeable. scouts legs and movement in general became so much smoother and i stopped running from scout 1v1's almost immediately after upgrading and played way more confident.

for hitscan only though. i don't think it matters if you play demo or roamer. gotta hit the shotty tho if u pocket.

i can't track scouts, i just have twitchy meatshots once in a while and lucky line-ups

would a 120 hz monitor help me track scouts please respond

I don't have the money for it so I'm mostly curious, and I'm asking here because the answer would probably contribute to OP

Its not worth it imo especially if you only want it for tf2, I have an 85 hz monitor, but I feel like it doesnt make a big enough difference to want to buy a 120hz monitor. I cant think of any other game that a 120hz would be useful for that isnt a comp. fps game other than maybe dota. Just do the 1.6 players thing and use an old ass CRT thats like 150hz @ 800x600

don't listen to anyone that doesn't own a 120Hz, I honestly don't understand how they even have an opinion on the matter.

yes you will notice it, and yes it is worth it. If you can already push 120fps with your rig then going to 120Hz is the biggest upgrade you can do. There's really no reason to play at sub 120Hz anymore.

I don't have that option myself, does it help? I don't lock my fps so I get anywhere from 250-1000fps most of the time, maybe dips to 150 in mid fights, but what would that launch option do?

quake 3 on my old crt was so smooth and fast as opposed to tf2 on my 1440x900 60hz
