any marching band/band kids here?

I'm interested because I feel bad for everyone that has to go to band camp.

SaxualContentyo away games are the fucking bomb

the only exciting away game we ever had was when we went to our rival's school and a bunch of kids dumped gatorade on our tuba player

I graduated two years ago but when I was in high school I was a drum major. I got to go to George Parks' DMA when he was still alive. Was a really cool experience.

dont be an asshole and ask everyone to stand at attention for like 30 minutes straight, a drum major did that last year and a girl passed out

I did band back in high school, but unfortunately didn't in college. Still regret it.

I switched over to tenors from snare on the line. I'm preparing to be the hunchback of Notre Dame. :/

been in a non-band college for two years and I'm suffering pretty hard. Still get to work with my high-schoolers in the summer though!

I used to play baritone sax in the band, and I annoyed the crap out of the whole woodwind section for a variety of reasons, most of them deliberate. So the director sat me in the trombone section. Whenever we played the fight song, I was able to shut down half of the trombone section due to laughter because I'd play the whole thing a half-step too high.

Used to play bass trombone in brass band and jazz band when I was at school. Fun instrument, I really regret stopping after I left.

I'm 5th bass drum this year, it's extremely painful.
I'd love more than anything to play tenors, but we don't have a tenor line at my school :(

I play mello

currently on a 5 hour break between practices. we go 8-12, stay until music check offs where we basically play our music from memory so that we have it memorized, then 6-8:30.

I'm pretty sore but it's good to see my friends again after staying home all summer.

Never took video of the high school band shenanigans. I also am so badly out of practice on the horn these days that I won't be putting video of that up like ever.

I play saxophone and am a senior in one of the best high school bands in ohio. We normally have a 4 segment show each year and it takes 5 days (35 hours) to learn the first movement. We just started our band camp and this year we finished the drill and music for the first segment. Our camp is 8 days, 8-5 each day no breaks in between. We learn technique from DCI instructors and also learn at least 1/2 of our competition show.

It's my senior year and 3rd year playing snare in our drumline. We have a massive marching of 224 people including our drumline of 25. Because of this, we don't compete, but we do have to learn a different show every week. The drumline is really good though. We somehow turn out clean with 9 snares.
Our band camp was last week from Wednesday to Tuesday from 8:30 to 8. The drumline got through a lot of our first show and some into the second and we even have a sequence and two other drum performance pieces down. The band though is awful and learned how to march and play 1 song the entire time.

i played tenors and snare, went no-life on drum corp exercises, graduated from high school, never went back to drumming again. tenors gave me some broad ass shoulders. i also played in the macy's thanksgiving parade. shit was like over 3 miles long.

i was never really fond of my band and drumline's discipline and skill though... 160 man band, 4 snares, 2 tenors, 6 cymbals (why the fuck do we need 6 cymbals), ONE fuckin bass... our drumline cadences sounded cool but only required basic rudimentary skill. we did manage to fit "double beat 9000" by scv in there but it was pretty dumb without a bassline imo. i really couldn't stand playing in a band that didn't emulate dci but i had fun. i met some of my coolest friends from band/friends of band kids.

i loved santa clara vanguards drumline. i think i might start going to some drum corp shows in the future. that shit is impressive.
