High Level Sniper v Sniper

Saw this post on reddit and wanted your guys' opinion.

Is high level sniping like MGE sniping?
where you always wait for the other guy to scope (or fake scope), and shoot him while he isn't moving, and MGE snipers often follow their shot with a jump (or a duck).

But in plat/IM/Invite, i rarely see sniper jumping or fakescoping, so how would one sniper kill another sniper when both snipers are focusing each other?

It's miss or die.

If both of you miss, then the sniper will probably switch spots and get an overheal, as will you, repeat process. If sniper doesn't switch spots, then your team will probably get scouts to harass him.

It depends on who you're playing against.

If you're playing against Clockwork, the best strategy is to fully charge a body shot and make him clog comms by whining after dying.

You don't see it because snipers DON'T spend a lot of time focusing each other. Their are way more efficient an reliable ways to kill an enemy sniper than dancing around in front of him. I almost never take more than 3 shots at an enemy sniper before rotating somewhere else, because in HL I can do more work by taking shots at the rest of his team and waiting for an easier shot on him, and in 6s it is much easier for me to get a big fat buff and and the rest of my flank to come spam the enemy sniper while I take potshots. You don't have to be a good sniper to snipe other snipers, either. So no matter what the skill level it's safer to take the long way around.

tl;dr: sniper vs sniper should generally be avoided because it's inefficient and risky for little reward. There are easier ways to solve the problem.

I fully agree with this. Sniper vs sniper at a high level is too much of a coin flip to rely on and, at least in HL, other classes like the spy are much better at eliminating a problem sniper on the enemy team. It's nearly always better to focus the enemy medic, demo, or sometimes engineer as a sniper.

IF you see the other sniper first and get him its a lot less stressful for you till you he respawns. I personally don't focus the other sniper unless he happens to pop up near my scope. i try to stay out of his sight and get more important picks faster than him. let the spy and roamer deal with him.

snipers don't snipe other snipers.
You have higher priorities to deal with. Medics and demos come to mind. If you can snipe the other sniper in-transit, that's about as sniper v sniper it comes.

There's a lot of strategy in sniper vs sniper play, but in a match scenario, both snipers rarely have the time to sit there fake scoping each other. Usually one sniper will attempt the fast shot (high risk high reward) and if they miss the other sniper will kill them.

It's basically up to you which one you choose. If you're confident you just shoot the guy in the head, since it's a hitscan weapon and technically the other sniper has no control over if you hit or miss your shot (players can dodge projectiles but if a hitscan is on his head there's nothing he can do regardless of how much he mashes his strafe and crouch keys).

Still, in a match scenario, overheals play a bit part. Snipers sometimes have to charge their shots, otherwise the enemy sniper can receive a 150 damage headshot and go get another overheal. This kind of eliminates a lot of the sniper dueling strategies as they are all about getting that instant headshot, although it doesn't completely eliminate it as if you can quick HS your opposing sniper, you can move forward or shoot a different target as it takes time for him to get a fresh overheal.

It is generally a lot different to a 1v1 sniper duel in some server, but some of those skills can still be utilized in matches at the right moments.

well, in 6s especially, when someone offclasses to sniper, the sniper is getting buffed, a fully chargeed bodyshot or a secondscope would not kill him, so the strategy is

I'm not really going to call myself high level anything in tf2, so take what I say with a grain of salt.
at high levels i see people charging shots to kill buffed players.
