#187 sigafoo's Challenge Cup in TF2 General Discussion

not sure why he chose to divide the entire prizepool between just the first and second teams...

seems like he just wants to make a $1500 donation to b4nnys i61 fundraiser and watch 6s players hate themselves wasting their time with 7v7 aidslander

#2 Bug with crouch jump script in Customization

i think you're over complicating stuff lol

pretty sure that null movement shouldn't conflict with any of the other two

no idea what the fuck no up jump is even supposed to do but it seems useless and it probably messes with the crouchjump script

you could always just play with default keybindings and learn how to play the game normally

scout is the best class in the game im sure you'll be fine

#10 Why is the null move. script useful? in Q/A Help

I feel like it's harder to play scout with it. Strafe aiming is really weird with it because if you tap the opposite strafe key you suddenly jolt the other way and it can be off putting for my aim at least. Without it you can get the timing down and be as responsive as possible but if you want to slow down strafing left for example you can just tap a instead of having to let go of all strafe keys which is what you would have to do with the script. I also find that sometimes I will accidentally strafe cancel with the script when I'm in the air and jolt myself to one side or the other as scout. I feel like it's a lot more fluid and less jolty without the script and the only real benefit is being able to AD mash and make your model look fucky (which is sometimes useful especially on medic). I feel like it and a couch jump script make it much easier when you're newer but can be detrimental or less useful than taking the time to learn the timing of things (for example you can't ctap with a crouch jump script and you get knocked back further)

#99 players who have improved the fastest? in TF2 General Discussion

I forgot about upio, he was a cs player who became friends with the 20b circlejerk and played pug scout with like 200hrs on the game. Pretty sure he was on that part time fraggers team in IM but quit afterwards. Wasn't that good but considering how few hours he had in the game he was pretty good.
Codyody was a top demo jumper and played pugs occasionally then he won open (carried by dingo) and has improved quite a bit in invite this season IMO at least. Similar story to digi who got carried by mausy and won open (having only played hl and some mid open team with cookiejake that died iirc), but he hasn't really improved that much in the few seasons he's played in invite since then.

Most of the time these sorts of players either have experience with another fps/game mode or just grind pugs/dm/mge. Not really the case that some people are just born to be good at tf2 it takes practice. The better your practice and the better the people you play with are the faster you will improve.

you can still make it look similar to that by setting it to viewmodel_fov 0 and r_drawviewmodel 0
has the heal particles around the guy but doesn't have the same little orb that it used to (iirc there's a video of harb using it at lan from a while ago on granary)

Oppebocirca played invite in his first season

he played on my open team in s17 for a few matches and then disappeared and removed everyone/emo'd out (different account from the one he uses now)
also he had been playing pugs for quite some time so it wasn't like he got picked up out of nowhere

Show Content
he beat triplemint in open that season and this season he beat trips team in invite... https://play.esea.net/index.php?s=stats&d=match&id=3781907

mae went from pounding DM servers to IM playoffs with six guys off and iirc he subbed for bird noises in invite for a match or two and did well

sigh got cut from air's team (for skyrolla ) and then got 3rd place in open the next season with slowbro, then got 3rd place in IM with bird noises, played with them in invite and the season after that he subbed during playoffs for froyo black who got 3rd place

delpo made invite playoffs his first season of playing demo but he as well had been playing pugs/ringing for invite teams for a while at that point

#17 net settings that matter in Customization
Snowshoesa3lence_what about the "rate" command, doesn't that one matter too?
the default 80000 is high enough, you shouldn't need to change it

the settings in the OP are the most important/game changing networking commands (not blocked by valve in mm and won't reset after exiting) and will work well for anyone with good low latency connections, which is most people nowadays. 20ms is a little more interpolation time than 15.2ms which is balanced for all the classes (proj/hs) and not too close to the server. too much lerp is bad and so is too little (too little can cause other players to stutter because it's such little interp time to smooth them out). i'd say over 30ms/0.03 interp would be kinda too much, 20ms/0.02 being the minimum.

considering sv_client_min_interp_ratio is a thing and there's probably servers changing it, i'll change the interp ratio to 0, even though my higher interp overrides 1. might as well

if you have shit ping or shit speeds then look elsewhere because high updaterate and low interp has been the standard here for more than half a decade. try 40 updaterate/cmdrate or something. as for servers limiting the updaterate themselves, really there's not much you can do about it unless you wanna sit there tweaking your net settings for every little ping difference or slow server. good servers use 66, and ideally you want to connect to servers close to you. obvious shit

You don't always get to choose to play on a server close to you (for some reason people still use dallas servers). It seems to me that you don't know what you are talking about and you've given next to no reasoning behind why your settings are perfect. If 20ms is so ideal why haven't people been using it already, this game has been out for almost a decade I would be genuinely surprised if it had never been tested. The only other time I've heard of someone using that interp was some other dude who tried to reinvent the wheel like you and made yet another cfg thread, but he didn't give much reasoning or evidence to support his claim that it is better either. I don't think I'm alone in trusting what setsul said over you. Why should people listen to some random dude they've never heard of?

#16 your go to songs for concentrating/studying? in Music, Movies, TV

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NZCiUu-_xEI

on a more serious note ive been finding it helpful to listen to ambient stuff, post-rock, jazz and instrumental hip hop
in order to find music i usually just look at the top releases on rym within a given genre or use pandora/spotify

Show Content
if you're looking for some stuff to check out in specific that ive liked in each genre:
post rock: mogwai, this will destroy you, explosions in the sky, godspeed you black emporer, sigur rós, talk talk, el ten eleven
instrumental hip hop: basically everything by madlib (if you're really into him this guide might help), j dilla - donuts, dj shadow - endtroducing, private press, rjd2 - ghostwriter, nujabes
ambient: aphex twin (havent listened to much else tbh)
jazz: louie armstrong, miles davis, coltrane, dave brubeck, thelonious monk, bud powell
avalanches and boc are also super good hard to put them in a genre since their stuff is so distinct
