#2 Don't update on Win 10 yet! (Intel HD 4400) in TF2 General Discussion

Thanks for the PSA. This is exactly why I NEVER switch to a new OS until at least a few patches in. I still remember the whole thing with the mouse acceleration problems on windows 8.0

#66 Why it’s time to say goodbye to TF2Center in TF2 General Discussion

I just want to make it clear to everyone saying this is a spurr of the moment thing fueled by the drama that I am in this for the community. I'm not doing this to enact retribution on TF2Center, I'm doing it because I want a site where people can learn competitive TF2 and integrate into the communities involved in comp TF2 e.g. ETF2L, ESEA, TFTV etc.

I took the liberty of compiling a list of people who have offered their services in this thread and what they have offered.

vibhavp - Coding
R.E.M. - Forum + site Administration, PR & QA/bug testing.
VanguardDLK - Writing
Omni - Funding + domain usage
DukeDaniel - Graphic design/photoshop
nonagono - Coding
Schalla - Coding
Marty - PR
RTC - quality control, grammar stuff, promotion and PR
DoctorMiggy - Anti cheat
_In_sanity - UI/UX design & other front end coding. Maybe a little back end coding.
Pascal - Coding

Please let me know if you wanna be added to this list by posting here or adding me on steam. I would start a project post but it might be a bit premature.

Ok so I've gone ahead and set up a slack account, please send me your email address on steam if you would like to join.

If anyone here wants to speak with me about starting this thing then please add me :)

EDIT: Ok we now have 20 people in slack and not everyone wants to be named so I'll abandon this list for now. Please keep adding me on steam and sending your email if you wanna help out.

#40 Why it’s time to say goodbye to TF2Center in TF2 General Discussion

TL:DR For those who don't know, a bunch of Euro TF2 players set up a LAN (DeutschLAN) and TF2Center sponsored them offering them 2000 euros. Anyway sometime later TF2C realise they don't have that kind of money and drop the offer down to 500 euros. They then tell the LAN org that they will give another 500 euros if they ban a former TF2C moderator from the LAN because they don't get on with him. DeutschLAN tell them to get stuffed and drop the sponsorship.

Since then a bunch of top level admins and moderators have left and TF2C were supposed to write an announcement which was delayed several times until Marty (Admin) posted the statement on ETF2L and TF2C. He was then subsequently demoted and the post moved to a private forum.

This isn't the first time TF2Center has pissed off someone in the TF2 community so this was really the final straw.

#18 Why it’s time to say goodbye to TF2Center in TF2 General Discussion

This is such a great post, I've been asking myself why we should put up with this when we have so many talented people in the TF2 community. Masternoob + Mother Thereza did a great job on TF2C's design for the most part but they cannot be the only 2 people in a community of 1000s of players who can do this sort of thing.

TF2Pickup.net has potential, but it doesn’t quite fill the niche that TF2Center does. With proper community feedback and involvement maybe that could change, though. What changes do we think it would need in order to serve the same playerbase as TF2Center?

TF2Pickup have said time and again they're not interested in being like TF2C. What made TF2C special is that it was open and welcoming to players who were only just beginning their comp experience. TF2Pickup's unofficial motto is "this is not the place to come to learn TF2" and the attitude to new players amongst some of the TF2Pickup userbase is hostile. Not to say I don't like TF2Pickup, I use it all the time but it's never going to be a TF2C replacement because it dosen't want to be one.

tf2pug.me also has potential, and does anyone recall tf2.gg? There are good resources available to us if we set about to properly utilize them

TF2pug.me is even more exclusive and won't allow people outside of prem and the top 4 teams of high. Also they use one of TF2Center's servers so there could be potential retribution.

I think we should just start again and make a new site with a proper ELO system for balancing teams like TF2Pickup does rather than base it on TF2Playerrankings or league experience. Introduce a proper ranking system and ladder so people of similar skill levels are paired with each other so that everyone is happy. If such a site were to be welcoming to new players I would gladly get involved in whatever way you see fit.

I have experience in running servers through FTP, using sourcemod admin tools, setting up and running online communities and I also was a former mod at TF2C running the feedback section of the forums. I've also worked as a QA person for a software company.

Your biggest problem is gonna be servers. When TF2C started we had jayserp providing a ton of servers for the website, matches and internals like databases and testing servers. We need to talk to Arie about Serverme.tf because at the moment it's fully integrated with TF2C but I don't know if it'll stay that way or not.

vibhavpREM_TF2Double post but

http://i.imgur.com/a8KhuSS.png

I fucking called it. Masternoob will never change.

EDIT: I think we should make a separate thread like on ETF2L, this is starting to detract from DeutschLAN itself and I don't want that.

Wait, so Marty got kicked from the admin team??

Yep. All because he posted that statement on ETF2L.

EDIT: Apparently Marty added the "clown" thing himself so I'll remove that from my original post. Apologies for misleading people on that.

TF2Center team's response: http://etf2l.org/forum/community/topic-31792/page-1/#post-539883

I wrote a more detailed response on that thread but interestingly it was posted on the TF2C forums but it's disappeared again around 2 hours after it was posted on ETF2L. I really can't comprehend what on earth is going on at TF2C anymore.

I'm starting to think this TF2C announcement is never going to come. This is the 3rd time it's been delayed now I think.

DoctorMiggyphobiaa hl lan sounds really dumb imo
The last florida lan had HL. Everyone who went will tell you it was a blast.

i52 had a HL LAN tournament that was a lot of fun too.

#65 UGC bans picking up dropped mediguns in TF2 General Discussion

Whilst I am uncomfortable with some of the implications of this mechanic, I think the UGC ban is just a short term stop-gap whilst the community and Valve sort out something. To be honest the weapon pickup mechanic as a basic principle could be a really interesting for the game, I just don't like the uber retention because either you're giving the enemy ubercharge or you're safeguarding your own ubercharge after death (same reason why the vita-saw is banned except this can't store more than 20%).

Not to mention that I feel this would discourage players from taking risks by milking ubers in exchanges and making awesome uber+ubersaw plays.

Having said all of that, I'm happy to see Valve are at least trying to keep the game fresh and develop the competitive scene after all of these years and I whilst I support the banning of this mechanic in the short term, I hope in the long term we can come up with a compromise or alternative because just banning the new mechanic outright is not sending the right message to Valve imo.

God dammit, I actually searched for it in the forums before posting. I guess I didn't put the right search terms in. Sorry :/

Can an admin please delete this?

#89 DeutschLAN drops TF2Center sponsorship in TF2 General Discussion
CHERRYhttp://etf2l.org/forum/lan/topic-30935/page-33/#post-539587539587For those wondering where our statement is, the DeutschLAN and TF2C staffs are talking directly to each other. The developments should be up tomorrow

You know I hope they stick to their guns and stay with TF2Pickup now (this coming from a former TF2C mod). There's just no guarantee that TF2C staff will behave themselves after this and I think the LAN could do without all of this drama and controversy.

Sometimes sponsors with bad reputations can be more detrimental to an organisation than beneficial imo.
