no it’s not really. I used the word “gerrymander” in the first sentence for a reason. obviously teams aren’t manipulated into being like this but the analogy is still there.

sunshine, metalworks, viaduct, and bagel are all fairly popular and still have less than 10% of the playtime of all matches. my argument is that badlands could achieve similar numbers of people weren’t simply afraid of playing it.

i.e. Newly formed team or didn’t play it in ESEA, eventually snowballs and it’s now later in the season and you just don’t feel like playing a new map. Playoff teams have their comfort maps, non-playoff teams just looking to finish out the season type of deal

oh its about the uber%. i cant read, thought crossbow healing also scaled with critheals somehow. regardless, didnt know that was a thing though because it was my first season of open when arrow building was meta.

i think the big issue with badlands not being played is that the badlands enjoyers are pretty much gerrymandered across different teams such that perhaps one team has 2 badlands enjoyers at the most - resulting in at least 8/12 players in any server being indifferent/against playing badlands - as opposed to maybe 1 player on every team hating process, hating gullywash, hating snakewater, etc, resulting in these players just having to suck it up.

basically even if 10-20% of people want to/would be fine with playing badlands, when 80+% say "bad map" or "ehhh i dont know how to play it yet" then it just ends up not being played.

edit: i exclusively say "badlands" but i guess it can be extended to granary since it also has a very low amount of playtime this season.

i raise you this:

step 1: home team picks a map
step 2: play match
