Getting into competitive TF2 guide?

I could probably write a guide on how to get started with competitive TF2 and some other stuff with it. If I do this, or if anyone else does this for that matter, I feel like this should be right along the home/forums/articles/streams/irc chat tabs.

Sound good? It will be easy to find it this way, though possibly better to have it be after articles and before streams.

It might just be me but I don't think people actually read long form articles anymore. I think a video would be more effective.

Yeah, I could always do a video, though it'd be simpler for me to just write everything. But it's not about what's simpler for me, so a video isn't a bad idea.

We should revamp the group page for the newbie mix group(mostly small changes like updating the sidebar links with newer content and a magnet link to join the mumble server and correct channel with one click). Then, when someone is asking about how to get into 6v6 you can just link them the group page. This means they not only get a short description of the group and the format, but they also get to experience the best possible way to get into 6v6(i.e. they're not playing lobbies).

The updates to steam community can actually help us a LOT if we all collaborate and use this group as a tool. There are almost 2000 players in this group right now but I could see this group reaching 4k or 5k in a matter of months if we keep it active every weekend(does not have to always be the same people running it).

Here's how ETF2L has done it, to give you a few ideas. Personally I think it's fantastic.

An article would be fantastic but I think a video would be even more effective, especially when a video can directly show how competitively play works. It could be broken down into segments like a brief history overview, the roles of each class, etc.

A video like that would take way longer to produce, though, so it might be good to put out an article like ETF2L's anyway and then make videos from there.

Or possibly an article with clips and videos embedded? You can talk about something and then give some video evidence or examples.

I decided I'm going to do what Vanilla suggested. I'm writing an article as we speak, and will include videos that will showcase examples of what was mentioned.

edit: It actually seems like someone else started on this exact idea and already has a lot to it. I talked with enigma, and this is definitely going to get it's own section. so what I'm going to do is, add on/expand to it as much as I can as enigma suggested, and with two people working on it, it should be done in no time.

Should put the guide on a new tab along side "HOME, FORUMS, ARTICLES, STREAMS, IRC CHAT" and advertise tf.tv

I wrote one for MGE that was under a "Getting Started" tab on the MGE site when it was up. It was filled with hotlinks to huds and stuff. I'll post it here, feel free to use it/pull text/ideas from it. Obviously it mentions MGE a bunch in it, so that stuff isn't relevant, so read around it.
