Mac - Squeeze Out Maximum FPS

Hello,
This question is mostly aimed at fellow Mac users, however, help from anyone would be appreciated. I am struggling to get what I believe to be a reasonable number of frames per second on my computer and would love to know if you guys have any suggestions.

Computer Specifications

  • Late 2012 iMac (desktop)
  • Processor: 2.9 GHz Intel Core i5
  • Memory: 8 GB 1600 MHz DDR3
  • Graphics: NVIDIA GeForce GT 650M 512 MB

Current Benchmarks
My current system benchmarks are as following (calculated using the TFTV benchmark1.dem).

] timedemo benchmark1
2639 frames 21.869 seconds 120.67 fps ( 8.29 ms/f) 8.222 fps variability

What I Have Tried
I am currently using the most recent version of Comanglia's Stability config in addition to having all of my graphical settings at their lowest respective value. I have passed -high as a launch option and I use the stock HUD. As a more extreme measure, I tried dual-booting Ubuntu on my computer to see if a change in operating system would yield any performance increase (it did not; I credit this to the fact that both the Mac and Linux implementations of TF2 use OpenGL as their underlying graphics library as opposed to Direct3D). I believe that my ~120 fps is unacceptable for a computer with my specifications.

What I Am Looking For
I am looking for any advice you can give, specifically tailored towards Mac users, to help increase my fps to an acceptable competitive level. I am not looking for answers along the following lines: "Get Windows", "Macs are shitty", or "Buy a better PC". I believe that my hardware is adequate to drive TF2 at higher frame-rates than what I am currently achieving.

Thank you for your time,

What resolution and refresh rate are you playing at?

There is probably a big bottleneck with that GPU, so lowering your resolution will help.

Also, provide us with the specific model of your processor.

Finally, is it a "all in 1" system?

Deal with it. Macs are pretty shitty. You can't "believe" that your hardware is adequate. It is what it is.

lol dont complain about 120 fps, even modern hardware cant run the game properly on good graphical settings above 200 lol. 120 is adequate for your specs
