Sager/Clevo make the best gaming laptops imo. You can get a used 9170 for typically around 1000. If you are patient enough, you can find the one's with the 120hz screen which is a huge plus. 9170's have i7 CPU's, start with around 8gm memory and typically have a 580m or higher gfx cards..which play source games with ease.

Yeah for sure look into 144 hz. Tekk in a previous thread said someone on his team (I think it would have been MGS so ask around those guys) had a Lenovo Y500 which apparently had 144hz. In general though, have heard really decent things about the Lenovo gaming laptops regardless, especially in the value for money category.

Just in case you didn't know, Clevo laptops tend to have less than 2 hours batter life. If you want something with a bit more battery life and similar power, Lenovo, Asus, and MSI all make pretty decently priced gaming laptops (not as cheap as Clevo but pretty close)

The best thing you can do when you're buying a laptop is buy whatever Phaser is selling.

hahaha...unfortunately my laptop collection is no more, you snagged the last one pine :-). I stand by what i said earlier though. I've owned alienwares, asus, msi, and sagers (clevo/malibal etc)...sager hands down performed the best and was priced very reasonable.

Don't get an Alienware.

Source; I own one. Way overpriced, don't perform per dollar.
