Need new computer stuff

So I need to get stuff for my computer and I need help.

First, I need a new case. I found one that looks really cool, but it's pretty expensive. Seems to be $119 normally, most places have it at $109, and 2 places have it at $86. Might buy it for $86, but I'm still not sure. (this is the case btw) Might be better to get a more simple case. So, suggestions?

Second, I need a new mouse pad. I have one of those old ones that look like this so it feels pretty cramped. So what mousepads would you all recommend? DONE - Got the Razer Goliathus Control in large size

Third, I'm considering taking my current computer, leaving one HDD in, swapping out the video card for an older one, and making it my streaming PC because I want to upgrade my main PC. This is my current PC. I want to get new parts because I'd like to get better performance in TF2. I would stay with AMD but I've heard bad things about Bulldozer so I want to try Intel this time. I would like to know if it's better to get Sandy or Ivy, and which model I should get (i5/i7 of course, don't troll me with i3s). Edit: On second thought, a 2nd computer may not be a good idea. My reasoning for a 2nd PC is that I want to stream with no performance loss. Getting a capture card would also allow me to stream/record console games. Either way, I want to upgrade.

Last, I want a 120Hz monitor but we need a thread for that so people don't ask the same question in a million different threads.

Thanks for the help in advance.

If you get a case above $70, you better be overclocking or live in a really hot place. Otherwise chances are your computer doesn't need the better airflow.

I like hard mouse pads. I tried the Razor Sphex which was meh. It did the job and it was interesting how thin it was. I recent got the Steelseries 4HD which was smaller than I anticipated but it didn't matter for me since I use a high sensitivity. I am enjoying my new mouse pad and most mouse pads are fairly affordable at about $20 a piece.

So I think I'm gonna get that case enigma suggested. Thanks.

Still not sure what mousepad I should get. Since I main Scout, quick movements are a must. Not really sure which I should get because they all seem to have their advantages.

The 2500k is only 10 dollars cheaper than the 3570k, if you're thinking along between i5s but the 2500k still overclocks better. I don't really think you need an i7, but if money wasn't an issue I would go for the 3770k just cause it's better although you won't notice much difference if all you intend to do is play TF2.

Yeah I'd like to know as well, because the 3570 is only $10 more.

He pretty much has it here.

In terms of cases, a lot of it is aesthetics when you get into insane high prices. Otherwise you are looking for good airflow and cable management (which isn't just visual, it has benefits keeping things clean).

For a mousepad, it's again just preference. My first pad was a hard one and I loved it. Then I got a SteelSeries Qck+ and I love it even more. Whatever you get, make sure 1) You like it 2) It works with your mouse 3) It's what you need in terms of size. There is tons of different ways to aim as scout and none are right or wrong. Make sure your pad works with how you aim.

Actually you're right. From what I've read, Sandy Bridge tends to overclock better, but that's about it. If you don't plan on overclocking there isn't really harm going with either one.

i3's are actually pretty good, especially in a budget build btw. A lot of times they'll outperform a Phenom for the same price.

i7's are a bit of a waste for gaming. I don't think any game takes advantage of hyper-threading, so unless you're going to be rendering/compiling a lot of stuff and you know your software supports the right amount of threads, just stay away from an i7.

I haven't seen graphics cards mentioned yet, but generally just get the best you can afford. In most cases modern processors are under utilized in games compared to graphics cards. You'd be better off generally to cut back on your processor to drop a little more on the graphics card.

Finally, I've been trying to find a 120Hz monitor myself for ages. It doesn't seem like there is any out there that a definite good ones. They all have pro's and con's, and huge variations in prices. You're gonna have to do your own research to decide what you're okay with.

Doesn't matter if SB can OC to higher clock # when IB performs more per clock. i5 3570K is better then 2500k and is definitely worth the extra $10.
If you aren't overclocking it's not worth getting a K series cpu.

3750k is a better option, for sure. If you're looking to stream, spend the extra hundo and get a 3770k as hyperthreading will be utilized by xsplit.

If you're only gaming, an i5 2400 is more than enough. In fact, most games aren't optimized for 4 cores. A high end dual core will get you the same framerate in BF3 as a hex core CPU with hyper threading.

Get an ivy bridge regardless of everything else. Hyperthreading is a joke, but the ivy bridge is faster per clock and enables you to utilize PCIe 3.0 in the near future.

I'd say go for the K-series even if you're not overclocking. You might at some point in the future.
