I get that with 5cp, double scout destroys pyro, but what I am confused about is why I have seen nobody use it anywhere else.

pyro's most valuable contribution to a team is oftentimes associated with his airblast and aoe. neutering it to win deathmatches as a class that generally sucks at deathmatching probably isn't what people play pyro for.

pyro's most valuable contributions in HL is denying spam and stopping bombs/spies. anything that prevents or slows down airblasts is bad.

Realistically it just makes you a worse scout. The most ideal scenario for DF is when you are coming out of spawn from last to stop point since you will most likely only be able to get 1 airblast from the surprise and the extra range can be useful for damaging players, especially when combined with the scorch shot. It can be aight on a last point such as the one found on process.

To be honest, the flamethrower is already pretty good and if you can't get close you can negate spam with airblast. Running DF removes a lot of adaptability during a fight.

It has worse airblast. Airblasting is the best thing in pyro's entire kit. Everything else it does "better" than degreaser it just doesn't need to do in HL. Like you can melt buildings with it but you have other classes that can do it better.

It's not used in 6s either. I love the weapon but airblast being attached to the firerate is very bad. You can't deny uber, which is the main thing pyro is used for, and you can't really reflect enough spam to use it to defend a gun or break through a door. You end up trading your niche for a worse scout.

its airblast sucks, shits out like a thousand particles and dynamic lights to nuke your fps every time you shoot it, and it still suffers from standard pyro issues of limited range with mediocre mobility options but now with the added downside of making it way harder to damage multiple targets at once.

not to mention the biggest elephant in the room aka pyro players having aim that resembles this video right here
