Is there a way to get the additional clarity brought by DX8 in DX9?
I can't stand this fucking fog, esp on upward
not effected by pixelfog settings, only seems to get clearer in DX8 but that's only afaik since i'm stupid
I'm wondering if there's any commands/settings that are tweakable to boost the visibility
heres a pic 4 wat i mean

if you're talking about the distortion around the edges of the scope, it's called refract and you can't get rid of it anymore on DX9 without using that sv_pure bypass which isn't allowed in RGL. However, you can set mat_picmip 2 which should help mask it. Warning though this command will make your textures look like shit so. If you want to use mastercoms modules it's textures=low.

the fog is the one part of dx9 you can't fix unfortunately, makes sniper unplayable

Funnily enough on linux/mac tf2 (which uses dxlevel 90) you can entirely disable fog by using the -nops2b launch option, seemingly because pixel fog mode is forced regardless of if there's support for it or not, which there apparently isn't with 2.0b disabled.

Unfortunately that's exactly zero help for windows, and obviously not likely to be rgl legal anyways.
In theory you could modify shaders (which aren't ever included in or considered by sv_pure, for whatever reason) to disable some or all fog, but of course that too should be illegal in rgl.

I see, thank you guys for the info :) I guess i'll just deal with it, tysm

on the note of visibility on dx9, anyone able to find a way to get dx8 rocket trails on dx9? standing still while spamming with the original is blinding on dx9

Can't you just disable rocket trails entirely?

i think you can with some amd drivers but that’s too weird for me, dx8 trails are perfect

word i feel you, if there isnt a true way to do that maybe you can replace the .vtf the smoke trail is pulled from with one more similar to the dx8 one? i could have sworn there was a way to change the trail on cfg.tf but i might be remembering wrong
