These have some really good reviews, might be worth looking into.

Do you need a headset with a mic? Or just headphones?

zalman mic + some earbuds is the cheapest option if you don't care about having headphones or earbuds.

Heard good things about HyperX Cloud as a headset

If headphones + mic is also an option you can try Superlux HD-668B headphones
for mics the most standard thing is the Zalman ZM-MIC 1

+1 for the HyperX Cloud

Great build quality, sound quality is good, mic is good, all around a very nice headset

If you can however I'd recommend getting a good pair of headphones like Sennheiser or Audio-Technica and buying a Mod-Mic

Idk what are good headphones but I'm sure there's some headphone experts that know more than me

any recommendations for something low-profile? sick of earbuds but i don't enjoy feeling like an air traffic controller.

But they are uncomfy on some heads and they dont have the greatest sound quality/depth (ive used them for dj'ing in the past), put the extra money in for the HyperX Cloud I own a pair and they are pretty good, aswell the logitech G230 is quite good aswell

If you're willing to pay a little more, I'd recommend the Logitech G430. I don't know exactly how much it goes for in the US, but it's around $80 in Canada.

Great sound quality and fairly comfortable.

sorry for late ass response, but for the people asking about earbuds literally the only earbuds that fit my ears are ones without that rubber stuff at the end. that's why i'm leaning toward getting a new headset instead of earbuds although mic and earbuds isnt a bad idea

STOGEDo you need a headset with a mic? Or just headphones?

i have a separate mic but id prefer a mic with the headphones due to the low quality of my separate mic

If you want only audio Sennheiser is my prefered, but if you want one with mic for a low price, you could try basically any hyperx headset.
