I noticed about a week ago an odd stuttering in tf2. I didn't exactly know what to think of it until today when I lowered my monitors refresh rate to 60. There was no distinguishable difference in tf2 (but a very significant difference on my desktop)

I run tf2 in full screen mode
I run windows 10

Things I've done:
-Validating files
- "-refresh 144" in launch options
- Turning off Aero Snap
-Turning off transparent windows
- Applying an Fps cap
- Making sure v sync is off

If you're on nvidia go to control panel -> 3d -> team fortress 2 and turn refresh rate to highest available

CrymaIf you're on nvidia go to control panel -> 3d -> team fortress 2 and turn refresh rate to highest available

I probably should have mentioned it in the op, but I use and amd gpu (sapphire Radeon r9 290). I updated the drivers yesterday but I was already experiencing this problem beforehand

Does having two monitors actually effect the refresh rate?

If theres something going on like a video on my 2nd screen my game turns to 60hz, I think tagg made a thread about it once because he had it

tagg made a thread asking and i did some thorough research. it's a bug in win7 and win8 (doesn't seem to be there in 10) with DWM's triple buffering when using desktop compositing, if you have multiple monitors with mismatched refresh rates, when playing in windowed mode. doesn't affect anything fullscreen though so that can't be the issue here.

mdvuntil you fix it: set desktop to 144, run game on borderless

I will try this. Doesn't running the game in border less cause input lag or something?

I think it might on 8 and 10, but I'm not sure. It depends on whether DWM still asks the drivers for vsync.

DWM still uses full triple buffering in 10, but it now does it on a per-monitor basis instead of across all monitors, so mismatched refresh rates no longer have issues. 8 performs just like 7 except it doesn't have the ability to disable DWM.
