Reason Gaming wins the ETF2L Season 21 Premiership playoffs by beating The Last Resort 2-0 in the finals (3-0 on Granary Pro, 8-3 on Gullywash) after defeating nerdRage.tf2 2-0 in the semi-finals (2-1 on Process, 5-4 on Badlands).

The playoffs began with a showdown between nerdRage and Reason, who had faced off just the last week in a regular season matchup taken handily by Reason with their new roster.

nerdRage got off to a great start on the first map, Process, with a big mid win marked with two headshots by flippy, allowing them to roll into last and take the first round to take an early lead in the game.

However, Reason came back with a mid win in the second round, allowing them to push into second successfully, but were not able to hold on. This began a back-and-forth between both teams as they alternated between pushing and defending. Ultimately, Reason take the round despite losing their medic KnOxXx right before his charge was ready pushing into last.

The third round proceeded similarly, with Reason taking the mid but losing KnOxXx in the process, allowing nerdRage to come back and take the mid. Once again, points would be traded back and forth by both teams, but Reason would eventually win the round by exchanging ubers with nerdRage and then pushing back in with less than a minute left in the game. This led to their win 2-1 on Process.

The second map, Badlands, began with Reason taking the first mid and rolling quickly into last. However, nerdRage would roar back with two dominant mid wins and quick pushes, leading them to take the lead 2-1 with over 20 minutes left in the game. Reason then responded with two rounds of their own in similar fashion, regaining their lead in less than five minutes.

With over half of the map time remaining, Reason won the sixth mid by taking down most of nerdRage and attempted to push second, but Zebbosai managed to force the Reason uber with a well-timed bomb and nerdRage takes a couple of kills to stop the push, allowing them to take the mid point and push Reason's second. However, Reason counter the push and use aggression to bully their way all the way to nerdRage's last to win the round. nerdRage then manage to take the next mid, but a med pick by Mike allows Reason to retake the mid and subsequently win the round, extending their lead to 5-2 with just over 11 minutes left in the map.

Not discouraged by this, nerdRage plays an aggressive mid, winning it and the round in a quick fashion. Reason then takes the next mid and push in successfully to take nerdRage's second point, but a failed push allows nerdRage to push all the way to to Reason's last, assisted by a key pick on KnOxXx, and subsequently take the round to cut Reason's lead to a single round with just over four minutes left.

nerdRage keep their hopes alive by taking mid and second, but are unable to hold onto it and are pushed back to their last by Reason. nerdRage pop their uber in desperation and manage to retake their second, but that is all they can manage as they trade the point a few times before time ultimately expires, giving Reason the series win with a close 5-4 win on Badlands.

Reason then went on to face The Last Resort, the top seed of the season, in the finals, with a much different roster than the one which was beat down handily during their regular season matchup in Week 3.

The series began on Granary Pro. Reason took the first mid very convincingly, taking down all six players including the mid very late. However, two players go down on their subsequent last push, prompting TLR to push with their uber, but a flank by Mike allows Reason to push back in with their uber and take the round.

Reason then takes the second and third mids, but both of these rounds are back-and-forth with mid and second points contested several times. However, Reason ultimately gains an advantage by picking TLR's medic Serotone several times, giving them the healing and uber advantage that they used to successfully push last and win both rounds to take their lead to 3-0 with just over seven minutes left.

TLR manage to come back by taking the fourth mid and the second point, but a failed last push allows Reason to retake second. Mid once again is traded a couple of times, but Reason manages to take it and second. However, TLR manage to recap and Serotone uses the Vaccinator with great success to keep his team alive. However, time is rapidly exhausted, allowing Reason to win 3-0 on Granary Pro.

Reason begins Gullywash continuing their dominance from the previous map by wiping TLR on mid and then quickly taking second. However, their last push fails, but Serotone is forced to pop his uber and Reason repush with their uber and Mike on heavy mows down the TLR players to take the first round. TLR come back in the second round, taking mid and second. Reason push back out, but a timely uber from TLR picks off several Reason players, allowing them to easily push into last and take the round to even the scoreline.

Reason then bullies TLR to quickly take the third round and reestablish their lead. Reason then does the same in the fourth round, but fail their push into last and are pushed back all the way to their second point. Several players from TLR are picked off on their subsequent push into second, giving Reason the chance to gradually fight their way to TLR's last and take the round to extend their lead to 3-1.

TLR's passive approach allows them to take mid and push all the way to last in the fifth round, but they fail two pushes, and Serotone going down twice allows Reason to push all the way back and take the round. TLR again play passively, once again winning the mid, and successfully push their way through last this time to win the round. On the next mid, Reason plays passively and TLR manage to take the mid and second yet again, but yet again fail a few attempts at pushing last. However, they manage to defeat Reason's push onto second and win their own push, bringing the score to 4-3 with just over seven minutes left.

At this point, TLR are completely depleted, and Reason muscle their way to rolling the next four rounds, managing to take Gullywash 8-3 by the mercy rule with less than a minute left in the game, thus crowning themselves champions of ETF2L Season 21.

What a team! What a game! What a season!

Just gives the lie to all the chaps who continuously cry that this game is dying, ha!

Congrats to all the players, teams, admins and casting folk, been a breathtaking season from the spectator's point, and it's maddening that i55 isn't for ages yet...

As for how well [R]eason played... to quote a great German: "What up now America?"
