how do you guys find your scrims?

I know a lot of teams who just add each other on steam and talk that way. the rest use #tf2scrim when they need one at last minute.

do you think a subforum on tf.tv dedicated only for finding scrims would be an efficient/good idea? im not talking about posting connect info and such in public but more of a way to see who still needs a scrim for that night and which map etc.

It would make sense to have one as an extra alternative to irc.

The easiest way to do it is just use the IRC to find some scrims, and then if you get some good games, add the leader of that team, or if you have a good match do the same, and just scrim that team over and over and over and over and over and over again. Then get a 2nd or 3rd choice in case that other team does other stuff some nights. I remember when I was first starting out, we scrimmed Rays' team at least twice a week if I remember correctly, we played each other constantly lol.

Eventually your scrim buddies will die or get way better than you, or you'll surpass them, and then you'll need to find new buddies.

Problem with that Marxist is that a lot of teams don't use IRC at all anymore, they choose to just scrim the same X teams because its easier and less hassle than dealing with IRC and pug/troll teams. Also, teams like to set up scrims for that night early in the day, and while hardly anyone would be on IRC early afternoon, everyone browses tf.tv throughout the day. Its a more convenient medium.

IRC is actually a joke. People will just say stuff like looking for low open scrims, just to troll and offclass to mid and shit. The best way to do it IMO is to, if you had a close match add the leader and schedule scrims that way. And to also see what teams have relatively the same scores on esea and add them up.

Sad :( IRC didn't used to be like that. Granted, all bets were off on Friday-Saturday night, but nobody in their right mind scrims on those days. *Maybe* you'd get a collection of silly once a week or so, but you'd just leave and find another or kick them and be done with it. Sad that it's been rendered useless.

my experience isnt anywhere as bad as kounterpart's is. s15 and s17 irc always seemed fine and we rarely came across sandbagging teams who just fucked around

i mean when we were like low open we'd play against some mid open teamas who just wanted a scrim and couldnt find anyone else but who cares we got some better teams to scrim against who wouldnt 5-0 us in 5 mins so that seemed fine

we have no problem finding scrims in irc tbh

usually tetro just asks us if we've heard of whoever queries him and if we have it's generally a good scrim

problem is when you take scrims with handles you havent heard of

for a while in s15 there was a guy who would ask me for a scrim, demand to play on his, then send me my own server info

We did a mix of both. IRC sometimes and scheduling with teams more often than not. IRC has always worked well for me though, I rarely have had problems with it.

We use IRC and it mostly works out.
It would be nice if a few more mid and low open teams used it so the ratio of IM nerds pugscrimming on their off nights was a bit lower, but this way we get a nice variety of teams at or above our skill level to play against.

Oh boy, pug scrims. This season has been pretty okay. Most pug scrims we've played have been pretty enjoyable. But a few seasons ago, every single day we there was a new person from Rent-a-homies looking in IRC so they could off-class scrim. "Does anyone know X?" Man, we scrimmed Rent-a-homies so much. One day we even won, it felt great.

Jintawhat ever happened to that tf2scrim site??

My friend made it, he wants to do a little tweaking of it iirc before reminding everyone that it exists. Imo it's better than irc in every conceivable way so hopefully the community picks it up! (:

People message me or I message them. And the alternative is just to see who's posting on IRC. Dont see how complicated that is...? I just dont like it when people back-out of a planned scrim w/out a legitimate reason. I'll generally just stop scrimming you if you do that.

Can I just point people in the direction of:

http://scrim.tf/
http://scrim.me/

Also it's embarrassing to still see us insisting people use IRC because that has always been the way. It isn't 2008 anymore, let's start using these brilliant websites people are creating that do the exact same purpose but make it easier for everyone. When you're at the top you know everyone anyway, but when you're newer or in the middle tier of this game, it's a lot harder to do and IRC is such an outdated way of doing things.

I notice TF.TV use slack for their organization, and things like Trello. Meanwhile other orgs still use IRC and insist people should change to suit their needs, not the organizations should change to suit their consumers needs!

I'm glad I looked at this thread because I didn't realize scrim.tf was a thing, I was just making posts on the UGC forum or adding random teams and its been really crappy this season trying to make scrims.

On europe there's still a widespread usage of IRC for finding scrims (at least for 6v6). Which I find unfortunate, because like hildreth mentioned there are these more modern and convenient platforms out there, and I wish scrim.tf or scrim.me would have got a bit more traction (to be honest it could be the devs fault as well for not investing enough in promoting their sites)
