#1 Looking to upgrade build - Recommendations? in Hardware

Hey guys, after a year with my current setup, I decided that I'm not getting nearly the performance I'd like out of the PC that I was hoping for when I built my PC a year ago and would like to change that. I'm aware that it's my CPU that's really holding me down here, so the main thing I'm looking to upgrade is that (and probably have to get a new mobo too, since I'm most likely going to be switching from AMD to intel), but if you have any advice/recommendations as to what else might be good to do, feel free to let me know.

Here's my current setup:

-Motherboard - Sabertooth 990FX R2.0
-CPU - AMD FX-8350 @ 4.1GHz
-GFX - SPARKLE GTX 680 2GB
-Memory - 8GB g.skill Sniper Series (2x4GB) 1866
-Monitor - Acer GD235HZ, 120Hz (primary) + Asus VE245, 60Hz (secondary)
-Headphones - Audiotechnica ATH-M50s
-Microphone - Antlion Modmic 3.0
-Mouse - Razer DeathAdder 2013 edition
-Mousepad - Generic OCZ mousepad
-Keyboard - Logitech G710+ (brown switches)
-Cooling - Corsair H80i Liquid Cooling

I use Chris' dx9frames and I currently get around ~120-140fps on average (when in a midfight/pub) when I'm not streaming, and anywhere from 70-120fps on average when streaming. If possible, I'd like to be able to get a solid 240+ fps regardless of whether or not I'm streaming. I feel like the majority of my PC is pretty solid though, so I'm not looking to rebuild everything - Just make a minor tweak to increase performance.

I don't really have a budget, but I don't really want to spend more than about $300-350 on a new CPU/mobo combo if possible.

Any help is much appreciated, thanks ahead of time! :3

Ah, right now I'm not currently supporting the health numbers inside of the health cross on the minmode version, as I'd have to make the numbers so small it wouldn't even be readable in my opinion.

Sorry, I made the assumption you were on the main version. :<

Copy/paste the contents of this file over the top of what's currently in your HudPlayerHealth.res file, and see if that works.

#34 I need a new HUD in Customization

Hey, if you need any help with hud stuff, you're welcome to add me on steam or PM me here on the tf.tv forums. I deal with hud requests/edits/questions on a pretty regular basis, so if you have a question or something I'm sure I can help you reach a solution, or at least point you in the right direction.

I figured that just bumping this thread would be better than making an entirely new one, but would like to let everyone know that now that I'm on an active team again, I'd really like to improve/step up my game and prepare myself for higher divisions, as I feel like I've been at a high open/low IM level for the past year or more.

I know a big issue of mine at the moment is my spotty/inconsistent DM, but perhaps I'm just doing something completely wrong and I just don't realize it.

Any help would be appreciated, thanks ahead of time. :>

#3 Help with tournament spectator in Customization

Look into the use of the "Blocks.ttf". It's a font that's used for sure in both mine or omp's hud, and essentially what it does is it replaces all of the numbers in the font file with solid squares.

This is helpful because it allows you to create a sort of "cover" over the health numbers appearing behind the respawn timer.

I can't remember off of the top of my head, but I believe all I did was use that font with a zpos lower than the actual respawn times themselves but mimic the labelText of the actual respawn timer (%respawntime%), and have it just display a block while waiting for the player to respawn behind the actual respawn timer itself.

Not much in this update. Next one will have potential fixes for the arena count overlapping the round timer, and a bigger logs/sizzling stats screen. Sorry for the delay, guys!

pandurrrthis has probably been asked before but, how do you widen the motd screen.

Will be adding support for this in a future update, sorry for the issues with logs.tf! If you'd like to do it on your own though, the file is "TextWindowCustomServer.res".

_w0lfLove the hud but could you possibly add in two things:

1) Fabricators/Chem sets show #/# like in yahud.
2) Add check box for new Valve Servers Only in quickplay.

I apologize I didn't get the update out sooner; the new update I'm pushing out will contain the button for quickplay. As for Fabricator/Chem sets, I'm afraid I'm not sure what you're talking about?

#1 Sunday Funday LF team mentor in Mentoring

Hey guys,

After my team reformed, we noticed that we kept a lot of the same habits we had when we stopped two seasons ago, and would rather not like to start the rebirth of our team in a plateau. In order to prevent this, we're looking for a team mentor that can watch demos with us, go over maps, etc. Whatever you think is best, really.

All of the players on our team (except for our 6th, who we haven't picked up yet), have been playing this game competitively for at least 2 years, and have played a large majority of it with each other, so the synergy is there for sure.

I'd say right now our skill level would be around mid to high open, but hopefully with a bit of a push (and a little more derusting) we'll be able to shoot up toward at least a competitive IM level.

If you'd like to help us out, you can contact fvl or myself.

Thanks! :3

I'll be bringing 2 GCN controllers, my Wii, Melee, and Brawl.

Word on the street is that there might be an SD card with Project M on it coming as well as two more GCN controllers, so we could play both Melee and Project M.
