#16 Shaw Cable in Off Topic

Shaw is pretty good, but you have no other alternatives, Telus is really really REALLY bad in terms of pricing.

#3 Viewmodel Variability Script in Q/A Help

https://code.google.com/p/broesels-crosshair-switcher/

Sets different crosshairs, colours, viewmodel on/off and indiviual weapons' fov

Edit: Note that this script only sets 1/2/3 with primary/secondary/melee and doesn't not have the ability set crosshair and other settings to weapons, so what Snowy wants for individual weapons does not exist (as far as I know).

#19 PC building in Hardware

If you want to overclock the 7850 it will destroy the 660. In recent generations AMD has really been kicking GTX's ass interms of performance and price because of its ability to OCed much better. Around the same price point I would suggest AMD GPUs over GTX cards. However, the only thing GTX has over AMD is lightboost, which almost gets rid of input lag on 3d monitors.

#17 PC building in Hardware

Overclocking is like the lottery, not all K chips are created equal. Some might be able to get to 4.6GHz at 1.200V while others need to push 1.400V (which make the chip much hotter).

Please check the temperatures of the Haswell chips because they don't overclock well due to high heat output. Unless you are planning on dropping around $100+ on an aftermarket cooler you might not reach acceptable temperatures on the the i5-4670K with a high clock like 4.2GHz+.

Every generation of intel CPUs seems to be getting worst at overclocking. The 2500k Sandy overclocked better than the 3570K ivys with lower temps, and the same with haswell vs ivy. A lot of overclockers are disappointed with hawsell and I personally went with the 3570K after seeing hawsell results.

If somehow you are lucky enough to get a good haswell chip without overheating, they do perform 10%~20% better than ivys.

#10 Xbox 180, Xbox One will no longer feature bad DRM in Off Topic

In the end nothing will really change for PS4 or XboxOne if big publishers still wants to push online passes to combat the used game market. Guess we'll have to wait and see.

#6 SSDs in Hardware

Even 64GB SSDs are too small for just putting the OS, let alone pulling the rest of the startup programs that you use everyday. I have no idea what you mean by using an SSD for TF2. Last time I checked you custom map folder gets pretty big pretty fast, you might run out of room in a 128GB SDD in a few months.

#6 X-box One at E3 in Off Topic

To prevent leaks so that E3 or whatever event they wanted was the actual reveal? Like Linus said in his stream the fact that the PS4 and XboxOne wasn't leaked until Sony and Micro revealed it was pretty amazing, Internet has been really good at killing surprises for the past decade.

As for your complaint. It's the new industry standard: use PC-rendered graphics that looks way better than their console counterpart, pre-release review copies to reviewers that are "encouraged" to give great scores, have "interviews" with the developers that feed you bullshit about how their games are "innovative" and "game of the year".

My advice? Don't buy into the hype, don't worry about pre-orders, don't really believe anything they say because they will pull every trick they can to get you to give them money. Wait until the games/console you want is out and read actual consumer reviews and impressions.

#3 X-box One at E3 in Off Topic

To be honest this is probably what PS4 was doing and what most hardware was doing before. The fact is that the hardware is not 100% ready and it was easier to just emulate the console using similar hardware on windows than trying to fully produce enough XboxOne for E3. I really doubt that the hardware used at E3 would really be more powerful than what the XboxOne actually uses. Unless some news comes out about how the PCs were running Intel 2011 socket CPUs OC'ed and GTX Titans x2, this is really a non-issue that people are blowing out of proportion as an excuse to hate the XboxOne even more.

EDIT: BIO LOVE THE LINK FOR THE LINUS STREAM.

#19 Results of overclocking the i5-3570K? in Hardware

Just got my i5-3570k and MSI Z77 GD65 Gaming yesterday and installing updates to OS and other crap right now. Waited sometime for the 4th gen intel cores but the overheating from overclocking made me get this 3rd gen instead. Hopefully I have won the sillicon lottery and have a decent CPU and overclock well.

#211 Fatal1ty vs relic - Taipei 101 in TF2 General Discussion

Summarization, not a real translation.

"This time the stage is set at Taipei 101's B1 Spark arena. The PC used by both competitors will be powered by FATAL1TY branded motherboard and PSU."

"As for the hard drive, naturally we used OCZ Vertex 450 SSD."

"Although this is said to be a show match, you can tell they took this very seriously with the look in their eyes. They are truely professional."

"This showmatch is a 1-on-1 format, whoever can KO the other the most in a 5 minute limit is declared the winner. This showmatch consist of 2 maps. In the first map, it seemed like both players were trying to feel each other out, therefore did not have many face-to-face encounters; but old ginger is the spiciest (hahahahaha chinese proverbs) and FATAL1TY was able to win with a 2-0 score."

"FATAL1TY looking intense and focused."

"Falling behind Relic looks a bit worried (Sidenote: Relic doesn't really look like his picture, haha)."

"In the second map, FATAL1TY appears to have figured Relic out and pull a quick 8-0. However Relic was not to be deterred and managed to rally a comeback in the last minute, scoring 3 consecutive points, "shitting" on FALAL1TY. Too bad time was not on his side and FATAL1TY was able to hold on for the win!"

The rest of the post just talks about the PSU and Mobo FATAL1TY is selling, hardware stuff nothing really that interesting.

Little Devil canteen] which is just the name of whoever posted this I think?

#10 Is this build good? in Hardware

Try this motherboard if you can fit it into the case and want overclocking:

http://www.ncix.com/products/?sku=71116&vpn=P8Z77-I%20Deluxe&manufacture=ASUS&promoid=1360

It has a vertical extended part which offers better cooling to the CPU and allows OCing capable of reaching the magical mythical super-not-useless-to-gaming 4.6GHz on the 3570k, but it is rather pricey.

Also CHECK THIS SHIT OUT:

#13 New Intel Generation in Hardware

2 videos on the new Haswell chips

Overclock3d(TinyTom): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xrLtjgbga5g - this is a loooooong one
NCIX(Linus): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XxnnwnSt4Sk

Few things to note:

Power usage! Haswell uses very little power, which conflicts with current PSU trend of more-power-more-efficency, which can be problems for low-end PSU to stable low voltage to the CPU. Be sure to check with PSU manufacturers compatibility charts before risking frying a haswell chip. (also buy a more recent decent quality one just to be extra safe?)

Overheating? Tinytom's vid points out this issue with the 4770k which ran at almost over 90c for 30mins at 90% load, which is a bit worrying, although the chip was OCed to 4.6

1150: No long the old 1155/6 socket, 1150 is the new direction. Cannot just direct upgrade without a new motherboard.
