Mentors

So a few weeks ago, I made a post asking for help with the Newbie Mix Team Drive. Well, the drive itself is over. We have 11 new teams lined up for open this coming season. That’s 66 players in open that would otherwise not be there. Every player that signed up (and had a reasonable schedule) got on a team. This is an absolute success in my eyes (even though I really wanted 16 teams).

This is a great thing for both these players and our game as a whole, but now the Team Drive admins need a bit of help. We only have 6 mentoring volunteers right now. We will not be able to make teams without mentors. In order to finalize these teams, we need someone to coach them through their season. This is a commitment of 1-2 hours a week that will make a world of difference for your six newbies.

If you’re a top open+ player, mentoring a team will be incredibly easy. At the start of the season, you show them through signing up for ESEA, paying fees, and joining servers. Throughout the season, you do (at least) one demo and one map review per week. At the end of the season, you get the great feeling of knowing that you helped someone.

This is the less fun part. Some of the people playing in the team drive teams are children/ young teenagers with no way to pay for ESEA. The total amount of money going towards the premium and league fees will equal roughly $500. Some of that will come from ESEA referral money, and some of it has already been generously donated. I’ll pay out the rest of the balance, but I want to be able to do another team drive in the future, so let’s make me not poor. :P

I'm assuming they saw the "Maximum Teams: 64" on the insomnia website and rolled with it. Pretty upsetting to see such an incredible unawareness. (unless of course there are 40+ teams signed up that I somehow haven't heard about)

Ambassador spy on paper is broken af, and you can see it when people hack in MM with it, but no one will ever be good enough to fully utilize it in a way that is better than running a scout or soldier. It's just not humanly possible.

Definitely not too generous. Giving anything less would be punishing a team for winning early in the playoff upper brackets, which (obviously) doesn't make sense.

If we are able to form our projected number of teams, we WILL need a few more mentors. PLEASE if you want to help a team out, do so! It would be a great thing for them :)

We’re looking for good, dedicated players wanting to improve over the season and in seasons to come. Our goal for this upcoming season is to make IM playoffs, and if it goes well we want to continue on with a consistent roster in future seasons. We currently have a few people considering playing on the team, but no one other than me and smitty are even remotely confirmed.

I had an absolutely awesome time at FLAN. Great people, solid event, fun tf2. I met some cool new people, and I saw some good friends in person for the first time. So, I made a pretty extensive vlog out of a few things I shot video of along with some stream highlights. Enjoy the vlog, and go to lans near you. They rock.

I kinda forgot about this series to be honest, lol. And yeah, bear. I'll end up doing OBS studio as soon as the changes calm down a bit, probably. I don't want to have to make too many more updates after releasing the original tutorials.

Variety streaming is really hard. Getting your initial audience can be very difficult, especially when playing older games. There are very few people that successfully stream only old games (aside from speed runners, obviously), and almost none of them started with that genre. Definitely play newer games, especially when just starting out if you want to get a lot of people watching eventually.

Building an audience is not something I'm as good at on twitch, because that's never been my goal. The only thing I'd ever say in a streaming tutorial aside from the technical aspects of it is "have fun", because that's my only goal in streaming. Doing it primarily for the money just about never works.

We need a few more coaches to facilitate the number of teams we expect to get. We really appreciate any help you can give! It will make a world of difference for the newbies :)
