The only way I've ever learned another language was through school, but I refined what I learned talking with native speakers online. I would suggest watching movies or tv shows with subtitles in the language you want to learn. It not only helps you learn useful common phrases, but also increases your reading speed in that particular language

that's awesome, I have been trying to teach myself to read hebrew because I have an israeli friend who is determined to teach me hebrew.
