Should be played as close to how you would fight opponent in any context
I found when i started playing more 5, the more movement actually matters than surfing. When I would play vs xqq who essentially only goes for directs. and if you don't you end up losing because he will just hit them. It turns alot more into ammomod movement. It became essentially a use my ammomod movement to avoid his directs and give them back.
I also had the same experience on both 6 and 4. Where surfing was more a detriment at times because it would put in you a disadvantage vs movement which gives very little to no damage.
RAWKind of besides the point, I also think there's an argument to be made that not surfing is generally a more optimal playstyle if done correctly.

jonnoinikoThis is something I wish I understood better: certain behaviors that some players show. For example, constant trash talk, playing in a cheap way, and then calling you a dog or trash even after they lose or barely win.
I notice this a lot now. When I was younger and really trying to improve at MGE, grinding hard and playing with an ultra-competitive mindset, I always wanted to win no matter what. But even then, I was never that angry, and I never tried to ragebait people. I don’t understand why this kind of behavior has become so common, because it’s making MGE almost unplayable. Every time I just want to join, have fun, and shoot a few rockets, people are constantly trash talking, kicking, re-adding, and repeating the cycle and for no reason i genuinely never trash talk and im never a dick to anyone on mge never really even have been.
One that stuck with me very recently before i stopped tf2 all together was a 2400 player I fought on ammomod. I won once or twice, then he won a few rounds as well, but throughout the entire session he was angry, constantly switching to shotgun, and nonstop trash talking. What I don’t understand is what I did to make him so angry, especially considering that he won most of our games.
you dont trash talk but u dox and bully people :) , u never won a 2400 in recent times either so i dont know what you're talking about since you dont have the capacity to beat anyone good , if this was supposed to be some mge fanfic u got the wrong thread
He's beaten me several times at my peak.

Overhyped rn, is just algorithms. People worry about sentience yet its years away from it. However, it does have some very good use cases. For example, medical field. However, AI can be lackluster and not always accurate so its a tool of many not something that should be relied upon (at least rn).
AI is simply, you have the inputs and you have the results. You tell the AI to make an algorithm that gets the results from the inputs at its simplest form of course you combine this many times and you can create some very cool programs, but not the end of the world just QOL updates.
