holy shit i played fusion fall like 10 years ago
Earlier today I got a new EVGA 980TI. However, after installing the new card I could not get my computer to turn on.
I had taken out my old graphics card (1060 3gb) and put in the new 980TI, however I had to restart the computer twice because I forgot to put in the 2 8pin power connectors properly. When I did get the power connectors seated in, I found that I couldn't turn my computer on. I could get the fans to jiggle a little bit before the entire system would turn itself off. I tried to put back my old 1060 into the mobo, but the computer still wouldn't turn on. There were no lights or anything on the motherboard, only the fans moving for about half a second before turning back off.
So far, I have eliminated the following possibilities:
Power Supply malfunction (did the paper clip trick to see if the fan would move, it did)
GPU malfunction (tried both the 980 TI and the 1060, 980 TI could turn on computer without correct pci connectors)
So I've come to the conclusion that the motherboard had shorted out when replacing the GPU.
I plan to buy a new motherboard tomorrow as well as a new power supply, just in case.
(Pre-broken) Specs:
CPU: i5-6600k @3.9GHz
GPU: Gigabyte 1060 3GB Windforce OC
Mobo: Gigabyte Z170MX-Gaming 5
PSU: Fractal Design 550w Integra M
I plan on changing the GPU, Mobo, and PSU to
Mobo: Gigabyte GA-H110M-A
GPU: EVGA 980 TI Classified ACX 2.0
PSU: Corsair - CXM 750W 80+ Bronze
