#94 book megathread in Off Topic
row_bump

started cooking for work
really interested in world cookery
please recommend any cookbooks from ur countries (particularly russia i have been hunting a russian cookbook recently)
or any cookbooks u have found interesting

i like the turkish cookbook by Musa Dağdeviren and Ikaria by Diane Kochilas

Not from my country but I own both "Made in Taiwan" by Clarrisa Wei and "The Food of Sichuan" by Fuchsia Dunlop and I think they are a lot of fun. Can't say I've cooked much from them lol but I like to just read them once in a while. I also picked up "Rasachandrika" when I was in India and it's very interesting. I haven't really made anything from this too but it's apparently a classic.

#47 book megathread in Off Topic

My most recent read is Tokyo Express by Seicho Matsumoto. It was a very comfy read but I'm not sure how good I think it actually is, if anything I enjoyed it for the vibe.
Also finished Our Mathematical Universe by Max Tegmark some time earlier this year and I thought it was a great, it's a popular science book about physics and his view of the universe. A slow read but I'd recommend it if you need to kill time and is interested in this stuff.

#7 need help with linux tf2 in Q/A Help
keeper-of-lettucebijlol...if i put this in the launch options, the game crashes instantly when run. am I doing it wrong?
-novid +exec autoexec -nojoy -noforcemaccel -noforcemparms -w 1920 -h 1080 SDL_VIDEO_MINIMIZE_ON_FOCUS_LOSS=0 %command%

I think you need to have it at the very start, like:

SDL_VIDEO_MINIMIZE_ON_FOCUS_LOSS=0 %command% -novid +exec autoexec -nojoy -noforcemaccel -noforcemparms -w 1920 -h 1080

If the game minimizes too then you can try adding this to launch options:

SDL_VIDEO_MINIMIZE_ON_FOCUS_LOSS=0 %command%

#8 Lunch thread in Off Topic

root vegetables are cheap now so you could buy a bunch and just roast them in the oven for a while. i tend to cut them to smallish pieces and roast them for way too long and then eat with some yoghurt based sauce. do note that this is really boring to reheat. on root vegetables you can also make soup with the roasted pieces, add some broth and mix it together with spices or w/e you got and the roasted vegetables. also works well with butternut squash (probably pumpkin too but i haven't tried).

cabbage is also fairly cheap so you could fry it with some chili, garlic, and meat. i usually use pork but i suppose any meat would work. brussel sprouts are amazing in general and somewhat cheap now so could do the same thing with that.

maybe you could make some sort of wrap if you want to bring stuff with you? like hummus or refried beans with assorted veggies and sauce in some flatbread.

if you have a microwave or oven available you can always make tons of stew and reheat with rice or pasta, super easy and fairly tasty. i sometimes do a stew with chickpeas, coconut milk, and curry paste + whatever stuff i have at home and it always turns out ok.
