AndKennethNot commenting about what went wrong/right here, just would like to point out that the job of tournament admin is often a thankless and incredibly stressful task. Remember there's a person behind it, who no matter the outcome of the tournament, he poured his heart and soul into it.
Tournament admins know when things have gone wrong, and already feel horrible for it. We are gutted when things don't go to plan.
I didn't talk to the guy so I can't really comment about how he handled it, but I was told that he was also the one managing the casting stuff and that he was a little more focused on that. I think it would probably help if there was at least 1 person who is dedicated to the tournament and nothing else.

Cubing is coming back, and I recently got into it myself - mostly because I needed something to do on the slow days at work - but it eventually just became easily accessible (via tutorials), and now it's something I try to improve at every day.
I'm still trying to learn all the advanced methods - so far I only know 2-Look OLL and 2-Look PLL. Still trying to improve my F2L Intuitive solving.
