#19 On Scout Movement in TF2 General Discussion

I want to know how Scouts get that weird "launched by explosion" animation. Is it caused by double jumps with a crouchjump script? I find it unusually difficult to predict. Hard to explain, but it looks like this: http://youtu.be/T8gxLtvWJtY?t=1m44s

#6 entry-level mechanical keyboard w/mx blues in Hardware
smakersI'd say the biggest advantage is that you can actuate the switches easier than you can actuate rubber domes.

Probably true, but I have a board of MX Blacks and it takes a bit more force to get a keypress to register than on a standard membrane board. I suppose it's for goofs like me who mis-press keys a lot. I've typed papers for school on this thing and I'm surprised I haven't bruised my fingers yet.

The Valve Gabecube has a sort of ring to it, I guess.

Smart bugger. Taking refuge from the polar bears, misfired hockey pucks, and high prices.

#17 they made another in TF2 General Discussion
alfunksoI think the crit plays and lucky shots are fine, we don't see the value on them as we can tell that it doesn't take that much skill to make them and is more of a right circumstance thing, but they are valuable to the non-competitive player who just finds that a crit demo destroying a whole clustered HL team is awesome.

Agreed. Moments of Glory are not always Moments of Skill. Gotta rip your mind out of the sport and enjoy the spectacle for a few minutes. Spectacles are also much more accessible than the sport itself.

Damn, I should actually finish reading Barthes now.

#13 glitchy jump? in TF2 General Discussion

Reminds me of the RED spawn on Dustbowl 1. That garage door opens the proper way by shifting upwards, but if you're directly above the door on the 'sniper deck' when it opens, you'll get raised into the air because the door retains collision but turns invisible.

Damn, the commentators can draw on the map, that's cool. Not gonna sugarcoat it, I'm kinda jelly of DoTA2's comp support.

#314 feelings thread in Off Topic

My university now only accepts paying jobs as valid co-op employment. I had the best experience in an unpaid volunteer position at a local high school, but apparently this is not allowed because it risks the university's integrity.

I took over the lectures from the teacher on Macbeth and Romeo and Juliet, I wrote several assignments and parts of the final exam, I organized class seating arrangements, I set the letters for the school sign out front, I helped with and learned curriculum planning, I ran the communications necessary to set up an exhibition on International Women's Day, I mulled over reporting a case of possible child abuse with my supervisor, I gave ESL students appreciation for the language which their families travelled thousands of kilometres for them to learn so they could look at a poem and say "Hey, that's interesting!", I can say I'm proud to have played a part in helping an African student - who lost his entire family in an ethnic cleansing and was flown to Canada for surgery - integrate into Canadian society and find a foster home, and if I make one more structure of coordination in this sentence my grammar professor is going to kill me.

But hey, can't be valid employment because it's not giving me $14.75 an hour.

My sister found the worst translation of The Odyssey for a buck. It just sits on the shelf untouched, so yellowed it looks like a block of cheese from across the room.

#319 my new hud. in Customization
VizaruSo i enabled OmpCrosshairCircle and i'm wondering if its possible to change its properties though the class cfg's. I hide my crosshair for my melee weapons but the circle doesnt disappear.

It's part of the HUD, so the most you can do is have it enabled in minmode 1 and disabled in minmode 0, or vice versa. Switching between those on the fly to get rid of the circle (if you bound it to a weapon switch) freezes the game for a second, so it's pretty detrimental to combat.

#5 soldier jump scripts in TF2 General Discussion

Scripts seem to force you to jump in a certain way every time, which limits flexibility when you need to do something else. I use default keys, but I have +duck on LShift instead of LCtrl because my pinky finger has the dexterity of a french fry.

I heard mackey used some sort of script, don't know the specifics of that though.

Never output the final video as .avi. Either output as .mp4 from Vegas, or send the huge .avi through a program like MeGUI to cut it down to an uploadable size.

#2 Benq xl2420t monitor flicker in Hardware

Mine flickered horribly when I first set it up because I didn't use a dual link DVI 'cause I'm a goof, but I think that means flickering can be caused by connection type. They're hard to come by, but try a different DVI cable, maybe?
