#229 Open to HRG: Legend of Indust in TF2 General Discussion

Eventually you stop yelling and you start just sighing. After a certain point playing medic stops making you angry and starts to just make you disappointed and apathetic.

I think we all know the real reason this happened. You should never cut frio.

I call black people niggers and gay people fags because it's a part of my belief system. Don't worry though, I'm totally being polite, courteous, and respectful towards them. I don't see the problem, I'm just being honest.

Not_MatlockSparrowbecause the fact that one of her parents is black makes him uncomfortable. Do you consider this man a bigot?
There's not enough information to determine the answer. I would want to hear his reasoning for making that choice before judging him.

See above?

BLoodSireSparrow
So are you of the opinion that when you have two things that are functionally and aesthetically the same, viewing them as different due to invisible factors that you would be unaware of if you were not told is rational? I don't think you can really argue that it is rational, and while I don't necessarily blame you or think less of you for feeling that way, I think it's unrealistic of you to consider it not a bigoted opinion.

To further illustrate my point, I will provide an example.

A man, upon meeting a woman, finds her physically attractive and chooses to strike up a conversation with her, hoping to pursue a romantic relationship. During the conversation, the man learns that one of the woman's parents happens to be black. Upon learning this, the man no longer finds the woman attractive and is no longer interested in pursuing a romantic relationship with her because the fact that one of her parents is black makes him uncomfortable. Do you consider this man a bigot?

I guess it comes down to whether or not you are a person who believes there is more to a thing than just function and aesthetics, and I think there is a vastness of qualities beyond these two things. Still, I categorically challenge this sameness in function, and very skeptically consider this sameness in aesthetics. Again this is all a fantasy. Everything you posit is "if" "if" "if" and never the real.

Here is more fantasy: one bad analogy for another

Once I was in a server and went to trade my vintage ubersaw to a kid for a bunch of keys. I realized it was level 100, and swapped it out for a normal level vintage ubersaw. We traded. After the kid found out I switched the levels, he confronted me. It seems he had actually intended on trading for the level 100 vintage ubersaw. I tried explaining to him that they both looked the same, even had the same vintage tag, and functioned exactly the same way. I told him that no one would even be aware of the weapons level unless they were told. He was irked. He called me dishonest for hiding the switch, and assured me there was a difference. I called him a biggot and left the server.

Okay, I'll cover this bit by bit. First, what qualities do you feel a biological female has that the transsexual female I've described doesn't have? As to the 2nd portion of your first paragraph, that's just a cop-out. Your argument is "because I'm not positive that the scenario you pose exists in the real-world, I refuse to address it". Until you know that the scenario CAN'T exist in the real-world, you can't really refute it using this method.

Next you don't actually post your opinion on my analogy or why it's bad, you just say that it is and move on. In relation to your own analogy, it's not exactly the same since in the tf2economy, higher leveled items are literally worth more. Unless of course you're saying that biological women are literally worth more than transsexual women?

Continuing on that, what if it was impossible for you to tell?

I believe it's on the post-op person to inform their partner. If the game is to see how I would react I couldn't tell you, because it hasn't happened. I would be miffed in all likelihood. Why? Dunno, it's just how I feel, and I cannot change that and I find it doubly and hypocritically wrong for someone to suggest I should.

So are you of the opinion that when you have two things that are functionally and aesthetically the same, viewing them as different due to invisible factors that you would be unaware of if you were not told is rational? Out of curiosity, if the girl pictured was post-op, do you still consider "sexual relations with this person" to be "homosexual"?

I wouldn't consider it homosexual. Note, I would not consider it heterosexual either. I don't know what I would consider it, but I know I wouldn't want to do it. I hope this doesn't make me some biggot. I find the idea of the operation unattractive, yet I am not attracted to pre-op so it's not something I would put myself up against. It's something that doesn't effect how I live my life, and I'm happy to keep it that way, happy to champion someones right to live their own life, and happy to have the conversation about what is and what isn't.

Continuing on that, what if it was impossible for you to tell?

Imagine the prettiest, sexiest girl you know.
Now imagine the ugliest, manliest guy you know.

The girl has a dick, and the guy has a vagina. The girl still identifies as a girl and vice versa.

Lets say you're a straight man. You have to pick one of them to kiss and be intimate with.

According to your opinion, the straight man would choose the manly, unattractive man, who you say is a woman. It is pretty likely that a straight dude would rather make out with this person - http://s3.amazonaws.com/cw-thoughts/615664/original.jpg over this person - http://farm4.staticflickr.com/3290/2896335920_ed187efe15.jpg (these are both transpeople, just to clarify)

The classification of "man" and "woman" are not rooted in biology.

Woa, I am gonna peak my head into this shitstorm only to say that this example is completely bogus. No matter what you believe, it is just bogus. I am straight. Obviously the transgender guy is more visually attractive. Things have been done to make him more visually appealing to a person who is attracted to women. This means very little, and does not somehow bump sexual relations with this person out of the homosexual category. The female to male is technically a heterosexual mate for a male, but it's not like any heterosexual male would say "you know what turns me on..."

This scenario is imaginary, and the theoretical "you have to choose" is a trap. No one has to choose. Those aren't the only two options, and you know that.

I don't see how what is physically attractive to look at, makes its way into the determining gender conversation. Either side of the argument ought to agree on that.

Out of curiosity, if the girl pictured was post-op, do you still consider "sexual relations with this person" to be "homosexual"?

This does not bode well for my education.

Don't worry, it likely stay like that. Almost all schools share their pipeline, so during peak hours you will get much less bandwidth

This. When I first moved into dorms I had like 300 Mb/s down. 2 days later I had like 3. It was gr8.

OOVOOV2sy_morphiendLet's see here, you're in 4 groups and 3 of them are for highhlander including one "Highlander Pro Spies EU." You might actually also be making a serious go at the crown for ratio of chromosomes to talent.regardless of how dumb aura may or may not be, are you really trying to discredit people because they play highlander and not 6s
you're everything wrong with the 6s playerbase

I generally agree with this, however, I disagree with this if the discussion in question pertains solely to 6's unless the players in question have both highlander and 6's experience. I would never try to argue with a highlander player about highlander, I don't know enough about it to make informed decisions. I feel this should generally also be the case for highlander players who have no real 6's experience, I don't think people should argue about things they don't really know about. That's not really the case here as the argument in question is about a player and not about the game itself, but yeah.

#267 ESEA Quick Fix Ruling in TF2 General Discussion
AllealHellbentQF is just better at every mid. The only way to beat it is build kritz near 2nd. Dunno about you but I like to see midfights.

Having your medic fly onto high ground with a soldier and a scout sitting there you're basically invulnerable, not to mention this happens before the other team gets to mid. The med also gets uber in the midfight if it's any other map except gully.

I can't believe someone has to explain this to you.

If they jump their heavy classes to high ground your fully buffed scouts cut the rest of their players right out from under them. While they camp up top building QF you consolidate your control over the rest of the point, and when they solo/2man uber into you you scatter and collapse onto them like you would any other solo uber.

The Medic isn't getting there any faster than the demo, who's not getting there much faster than the Scouts. If their entire team is halfway across the point before a single one of your players shows up I think you're doing something wrong.

I have never had a problem organizing a team to counter a quick fix mid. Maybe it's because the other team wasn't very good at it, and maybe it's because my players were better. Or maybe it's because my calls are a little more dynamic than JUMP THEN JUMP THEM JUMP THEM.

You're a roamer right? Did you run shotgun to mid? I'll bet $10 you didn't and just tried the by now long proven ineffective strategy of bombing the combo/demo for damage that your scouts can't follow up on because they're running the quick fix.

If you insist on pretending that you're fighting uber when you're fighting Quick Fix you're going to lose and you're going to deserve it.

No offense but I don't think you ever played a mid against a team running qf that had any clue what they were doing. If your medic chains to the demo, the demo can do the fastest rollouts possible without picking up medpacks on the way. Normally on mids, the speed at which your players get there is limited by your medics walking speed. On qf this is no longer the case.

As a brief example, consider snakewater. In a typical snakewater midfight, the two demos show up first and spam at each-other for a bit before the scouts show up. Shortly afterwards the medic and soldiers show up. Imagine you're a demo on a team not running quickfix against a team that is running it. When you show up to mid, you're fighting their demo like normal, only he has a medic healing him while he's doing it. At the very least, assuming equal skill, he forces you out of the mid.

On top of that their team will have a faster healrate at mid, which will matter unless the midfight ends very quickly, and furthermore it's likely they'll have uber before the mid is done. I also am not sure what your fascination with getting meds on top of things is. Honestly if that's what teams you play against are using the qf for, they're using it wrong. They should essentially play the mid like normal, only with the added benefits of getting all their players there faster than you, having more heals than you, giving their medic more survivability/mobility than yours, and potentially getting uber during the fight before you. Basically, on most maps, if the other team runs it to mid and has any clue what they're doing, you'll need to run it in order to compete with them on mid.

SparrowAlso why run sniper when you could run heavy. Heavy out-damages qf uber heal rate at a range that's a bit farther than the length of a gran crate, requires no charging for a guaranteed kill, is easier to play, and is actually useful for things other than silly picks. Also it has 450 health.
