I've stayed in france for a month, as an american who speaks practically no french.

I loved it, as long as you don't act like a stereotypical dumb tourist, no one seemed hostile. The biggest issue is that they have a lot of social cues and strange things with food that will go over your head and you'll probably manage to offend everyone you're eating with a couple of times.

edit: also from what i've seen their mass transit is better and much cleaner than ours (the tube in London and the TGV in france were both awesome), but the euros really haven't figured out how to make decent showers so be warned

I've been told by my mother I only got spanked once as a child, because I didn't know any better so I ran right across the street when cars were nearby at some point when I was rather young. Apparently I never did it again so I don't think it was the worst thing in the universe. I think beating kids regularly or harshly is a shitty parenting tool and is bad, but also I think that physical punishment is can be okay in specific and rare circumstances.

Me and some of my irl friends made r/cummingonfigurines one day as a joke/social experiment to see if reddit had as weird a userbase as 4chan (iirc the original posts were taken from some terrible 4chan board I've never browsed like /d/)

Turns out the answer is yes. A couple of them still moderate it for some reason, apparently there's a surprising amount of moderation that needs to be done even on a subreddit like that.
