#44 yttrium's competitive viewmodels in Customization
yttriumMukhtar1til that there are people who don't like the mini viewmodelshttps://secure.twitch.tv/truktruk/v/77515372?t=02h02m52s

I'm glad I'm not the only one who gets his aim thrown off by the minmode viewmodels (and the original viewmodels too). The day I turned off viewmodels is the day I started aiming with the crosshair rather than the weapon and got better.

#30 yttrium's competitive viewmodels in Customization

Cheating means getting an advantage by breaking the rules of the competition. The competitive community has, from the start of competitive TF2, defined its own rules. Valve have come in, copied our gamemode (6v6) and thrown a wrench at some of our own rules (that no viewmodels and fps configs are fine and that class limits are in place), then asked us to play their version of our competition. We are annoyed that valve have done this, and we've found a way to remove part of the wrench and put some of our old rules back in place.

Your argument, that these viewmodels are bad because it's cheating, is a very pedantic and almost snide one, and tries to put what's happening in this thread alongside aimbots, wallhacks and bunnyhop scripts, and tries to make us feel guilty for taking back what we used to have from a company that is trying to change our community's rules.

#285 MAJOR TF2 update for 7/7/16 (Meet Your Match) in TF2 General Discussion

I found a completely filled toy fort server. :O

I noticed some multiplay servers around too (I thought that company died). I feel like the community servers are already starting to come back.

#266 MAJOR TF2 update for 7/7/16 (Meet Your Match) in TF2 General Discussion

This update is reminding me of this an update to CS:S back in like 2011 where the next day all the servers were dead, What happened there and what changed to un-dead the game at that time? Was it just time, or did CS:GO happen (eventually, I hear it wasn't a smooth start)?

#3 Interp and lerp in Q/A Help

Changing you interp isn't about improving your aim with hitscan, rather, it's about reaction time.

TF2 deliberately delays a game tick (effectively adding 1/66th of a second to your ping) to account for random network jitter that would cause players to warp on your screen (which would harm your hitscan aim). However, it's considered less important for rockets, pipes, healing, etc, so some players remove that delay for those weapons, sacrificing a smoother game for better reaction time.

TF2 tick rate is fixed at 66 ticks per second, so nothing you can do with your networks stuff will change which of the 2 common interp settings you should go with.

Have the people in this thread not seen this? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Fwv1G3WFSfI#t=33m43s

#59 Valve Visit in TF2 General Discussion

Thanks for posting, Geel. Hopefully it hits just after this season's playoffs.

I don't know why this thread is all of a sudden full of kids complaining about valve's policies. Everyone who follows valve games for a few years already knows about these policies and has seen those videos where valve employees explain them.

#8 Good jump maps for beginner/intermediate jumpers? in Q/A Help

rj_training personally did me more help than any.

jump_competitive also helps show you what you can do on a map.

#22 Wall of text for potential new gametypes/ maps in TF2 General Discussion
KonceptLegacyuberchain made an interesting argument for pass time a while back. I'd recommend checking it out and at the very least, reading it

Isn't passtime essentially a more complicated ctf_bball, where classes other than soldier can play?

#65 DREAMHACK STREAM ENDED in TF2 General Discussion
-protoWhy does a LAN need security?

It needs security because
- a public event as big as dreamhack needs insurance, and insurers like site security.
- there's quite a lot of electronic equipment lying around that would fetch a pretty penny.
- it's a large gathering of humans, which necessitates crowd control.
- the building very likely does not belong to the dreamhack organizers, and there will be a very long document stipulating how the building is to be used (and when it is not).

Most non-derelict, non-residential buildings are owned by someone who has rules like "everyone out by 9pm". Is this not common sense...?

#55 DREAMHACK STREAM ENDED in TF2 General Discussion
nykImagine the shitshow if they did this during the cs finals...

F1 (one of, if not the, biggest motorsport) sometimes runs out of time on rare occasions, and the event organizers literally say "throw down the checkered flag, right now, and everyone out within 2 hours". Shit like this just happens sometimes. Some sports are even build around having to deal with this being a likely outcome of the competition (though a race has the advantage of always having a guy in 1st place at any given time).

From a-top the left fence, on last (which snipers can jump to from the middle spawn door balcony)

you can shoot to the med kit on second.

From the left door of house on last,

you can shoot the second point itself.

Fucking trauma flashbacks from formula student and exams.

I hold nothing against dreamhack for that; if an event runs over time in a venue like that, you have to pull the plug.

Edit: Oh props to sideshow (and admirable) for giving such a professional and clear explanation of what happened.

#61 DHS2016 GF: Perilous Gaming vs. nameLess in Matches

To be continued at i58, I guess? That or private lan in a hotel room, if they can get enough laptops.

Crowns vs Spanked was epic. Seeing snipers take shot after shot, soldiers try bomb after bomb, is boring in comparison.

Hopefully something different for viaduct.
