#17 official valve support in TF2 General Discussion

Robin isn't working on TF2 anymore to my knowledge. It's still his baby and he still likes the competitive scene, as evidenced by his support of it. But Valve is spending their cash on more lucrative games now, such as DOTA. And with Gaben's concern about Windows 8 trying to shit on their business model, I'd think they're probably hoarding some cash too, to try and weather the storm.

But yeah I really would like to see a bit more support. Hoping the i46 event can get some attention.

#20 What maps did you like this summer? in TF2 General Discussion

There are a couple of maps out there with interesting mechanics that could be explored more. The capping mechanics on Vitalism and HAARP seem like they could work on maps that aren't so turtle-friendly. The domination mechanic of Canalzone could work well on a more restrictive, less chaotic map, although I could see it becoming a case of "oh they're 20 percent ahead, the only way we can win is an all-cap" and that could end up being disappointingly boring.

If by "pretty balanced" you mean "easy to roll in pugs" - gg last night

I've definitely had the most casting requests for Borneo and Waste.

I laughed - but they pay me enough that I don't have to. I'm quite lucky to have this job.

Accountant for an oil company. Will not say which one or anything more specific, as I don't want to get in trouble at all.

#35 It was them or my sanity. They're adopted through the SPCA now.

#36 Because I wanted to see an international tournament and get some big publicity for an underserved competitive community.

#37 That's no question! Also http://play.esea.net/teams/65722

#162 I am Platinum, AMA in TF2 General Discussion

If you wanted to see shorter TF2 matches, but ones that still showcase skill and strategy, what format would you go with? Ultiduo? 3v3, 4v4, modified 6v6 rules? I ask because it came up in the other thread and I think part of the reason more people don't watch TF2 is that the matches just last a long time.

Doesn't it say my email on my youtube channel?

And no, I cast the longer games because the closer they are, the more eXciting. Usually. Adjustments to the format would be necessary for short games to be eXciting. Currently, short games are pretty much rolls.

#2 Suggestions in Site Discussion

Having a section for demos isn't the hard part. The hard part is having the demos. ESEA already hosts all of their STV demos, but outside of that, most STVs are not published at all. It's up to the leagues to require their demos be uploaded somewhere, because if they aren't required, they won't be uploaded.

There's probably a thread about this on UGC but what maps worked for Highlander in the summer season? What maps really didn't?

One thing I'll say is that from a casting perspective I didn't like Canalzone. Without the ability to snap the camera to different positions, watching the action and understanding it is next to impossible.

As far as what non-TF2 game I like to watch, I only watch Starcraft right now, and not very often. It's got a good spectator scene.

#29 Ask Sal a question in Q/A Help

#23 Have you casted anything before? Make a video or something and let me see.

#24 Brief and to the point. Though the attempt at humor has fallen flat in the eyes of your colleagues, it is at least a welcome interlude from some of the more serious posts. However, you didn't phrase it in the form of a question in an "AMA" thread, so 1/10 poster.

#25 Toss-up between weedwackers outside or when one of my ferrets got out of his playpen mid-cast. (disclaimer: I don't have the ferrets anymore)

#26 I've tried to make it as clear as possible in as many places as possible, but I don't take demos from friends list. All STV demos I consider for casting are emailed to Salamancer.TV@Gmail.com. As far as why my list is constantly full, take a wild guess.

#27 TF2 matches take too long. The average starcraft shoutcast can be 10-15 minutes; TF2 casts are almost always above 30. Short of drastically changing the game, I don't see how that's fixable. The long games are usually fun for the players, but from a viewer perspective there's other things you might have to go do, or other vids to watch / games to play. The only feasible solution is to make alternative gamemodes more viable and shorter - Ultiduo or 3v3 KOTH, for instance. Either that or completely change the ESEA (and even ETF2L) rules to promote short games.

#28 Ruwin, Mackey, TLR, Mesr. I say that more based on "best inviter to watch" than "best at the game" since that's what I'm qualified to talk about.
