I have beyerdynamic dt 990 pro headphones with CMSS-3D from my soundcard (Titanium HD) and I can vouch it's incredible directional accuracy.

True surround sound is a joke, but emulated surround sound is actually worthwhile. Well CMSS-3D is, anyways.

Try going through safe mode and uninstalling any and all video drivers, restart. Make sure not to install/reinstall any video driver at all.
Go to safe mode w/ networking and upgrade your Windows 7 fully, restart.
Then go back to safe mode and open an elevated command prompt and type "sfc /scannow"
Then try starting W7 normally.
