#9 Looking to buy a headset in Hardware

A couple months ago I bought the Plantronics Gamecom 780 with the Dota 2 promo from the Valve store for $88 shipped, then sold the Battlefury item that came with it for $68 PayPal. So got it for $20 in the end, and it has worked great.

Looks like it's sold out from the valve store, but you can also get it here.

can you define "full retard"?

What's wrong with it? Everything is slow?

You can check for traffic shaping with this tool, but in general there's not much you can do on your end either way.

edit: messed up link

#10 Looking for a new chair in Off Topic
incognitoAeron office chair http://www.amazon.com/Aeron-Chair-Herman-Miller-Adjustable/dp/B0014YGGKE/ref=sr_1_1?s=home-garden&ie=UTF8&qid=1371357915&sr=1-1&keywords=aeron+office+chair

that price o0

yes, obviously not for everyone. but like I said, you can sometimes find good deals on used versions of high end chairs if you get lucky. Steelcase Leap is another to look out for, which also seemed amazing from the times I've sat in one.

You should probably just go to Staples or OfficeMax and see what you like (again, I would personally recommend trying mesh), staying far far away from the cheap chairs.

and seriously, get good lumbar support.

#6 Looking for a new chair in Off Topic

I would personally start by trying to find a used Aeron or Steelcase.

Both are pretty much amazing, and sometimes get way underpriced by people who don't know what they're worth.

You usually get what you pay for with chairs, and you should really try to not skimp if you use your computer any significant amount of time. Going from my Aeron at home to a shitty chair at college I could easily see I was less focused while working and probably worse at videogames.

Another reason to not skimp is the cheapo chairs usually have no lumbar support and cushions that wear and compress easily. I personally prefer mesh over leather, you don't have to deal with compression over time and it breathes easier.

#16 Macbook Pro's and overheating fix success in Hardware
crespiSo bad that the excess of paste around the diodes were causing overheating.

besides being ugly, the paste around the edges should have negligible effects; in fact, if anything, it would help, as thermal paste (~0.5-10 W/(m·K)) has a much higher thermal conductivity than air (0.024 W/(m·K)).

crespi Notice that the cores surface is shiny because there is hardly any paste on them; notice the copper on the heat sink, it's almost bare.

all you want for thermal paste is to fill in the air holes, you'd ideally like as much metal contact as possible because metal (390 W/(m·K)) conducts orders of magnitude better than paste.

blobbing too much down in the factory can be a mistake and sometimes prevent contact, but I see a lot of people who think spreading a layer over it is somehow better. however, unless it's a basically transparent super thin layer, you're doing it wrong, and it would be better just to leave a small blob, screw your heatsink down, and be done.

gj insulating your chips, crapple. But what can you expect; they call it a "logic board" l0l

you do realize these laptops are manufactured by Foxconn, not Apple, and that Foxconn manufactures an overwhelming majority of laptops and computer hardware, right? I have seen a similar situation on my friend's ASUS machine.

#184 Esea Client Mining Bitcoins in Off Topic
FzeroRiddleSmart PR move by them, but it doesn't really change anything. It's basically fluff, info we already knew, and an added "we're giving $7000 to cancer, forgive us pls."

And for everyone saying people responsible should be fired:

lpkane has pretty much said it was his idea and fault, and considering lpkane is the co-founder/co-owner, unless torbull buys his stake out, or he steps down (lol), nothing will change.

Again, everyone seems to forget that a lot of people have already filed a federal complaint against the company. Also according to reddit a lawyer has already been contacted.

That's good news, but it's such a foggy situation that there is no guarantee what will happen from this. I hope shit does get done though, they shouldn't be off the hook just by spending some money on a PR donation.

#30 tablet + college? in Hardware

Definitely don't get *just* a tablet, but if you can afford it a small tablet like an iPad mini can be cool to have.

I previously questioned the usefulness of tablets, but I got an iPad mini as a gift and even with my laptop with me I find myself using this thing all the time, it's pretty nice.
