#25 Computer Engineer in Off Topic

I want to give you a suggestion to go towards one or the other, but honestly, you have a lot of time to decide. My freshman year of high school I wanted to be a physicist or a math major. Going into college I was still undecided on what type of engineering I wanted to go into. I ended up with an BSEE with focus in computer engineering and I work in Aerospace doing nothing related to VLSI or hardware design.

I would recommend to take the engineering discipline because it will give more exposure to a wider variety of fields. I would also suggest not being afraid to approach family and friends you know and ask if you can shadow them, interview them about what they do and what path they took to get there.

#38 The International 3 in Esports

I can't watch it live, but on the plus side all the event/match times are on West Coast time.

I am hoping for Dendi Pudge, n0tail meepo, and for more Statman Bruno

#1 Fragging bugged in Bug Reports

I can go into a thread, frag a few comments, refresh the page, then frag again. However refreshing the page a subsequent time will clear the false frags.

#5 PAX Prime in Off Topic

I went to the BYOC last year. Usually I don't like being terribly critical, but...

It was very disappointing. A lot of people came in their own groups and played LoL, SC2, and Diablo III. There were TF2 servers, but they were all vanilla. No basic network configuration, poor map management, no unique mods (prophunt, MGE, deathmatch, tourneys, etc) and the number of players was depressing. I even posted and PM'd several admins pre-PAX asking if they would like to get something together, but no one really listened. I ended up abandoning the entire last day and watching the International the whole day.

#8 Am I Overheating? in Hardware
JDMYoshiokaGet a aftermarket CPU cooler if you are running the stock one. The cooler master 212 is perfect if you are on a budget.

CoolerMaster 212

I would also recommend this air cooler. However make sure there is enough room in your case. Additionally, go buy a non-electrically conductive thermal paste.

#49 My first legal beer. in Off Topic

Like defy, I am also a beer hipster/snob

Anytime you go to the store, buy a new 6-pack you have not tried before. If your local store has a bunch of shit beer or you run out of options, go to a different location. You are doing two things. You are building a palate for different flavors and styles as well as finding what you do and don't like.

I don't know what they have in North Carolina, but try and find pale ales, ambers and blondes if you are new to microbrews. These have a lower IBU and usually are not as heavy. That is not to say they are not as good as IPAs, heavier stouts, and porters. Some of my favorites are pales and ambers. IPAs come in a large spectrum, but they will usually be more bitter and have more of the hop aroma. Be on the lookout for seasonal brews since they will do more unique things to the beer. Spring and Summer beers are usually lighter ales or wheat varieties (hefeweizen, blondes, etc) where Fall and Winter varieties are usually bolder and heavier in variety (stouts, porters, ales) and ABV (alcohol by volume).

Another tip I have is look for the 22oz bottles. You will be able to find some beers that would not normally come in a 6-pack. Think of 22s as the "forty" for micros.

Oh and visit the NW and the rest of the West coast. Seattle, Portland, San Francisco, San Diego all have some larger beer scenes. But never discount the surrounding areas either.
