#14 Building a new computer in Hardware
CknSaladI would try to get the Nvidia 660 TI or AMD 7950 for $300. Cpu I would opt for the i5 3570k.

Case is honestly subjective: bitfenix prodigy, sg08, or lian li q08 (mitx), lian li a04, sg09, tj08-e (matx), fractal arc mini (m-atx). Personally if you are only going to have one card and maybe a dedicated audio card with just a few hard drives, I would just opt for matx as mid towers are pretty damn big.

Ram I would go with g-skill as they have been in the business for a long time. 8 gigs at 1600mhz is enough and should be around the $50-65 mark.

Motherboard: I would pay for at least a $130 motherboard (make sure its the 1155 socket if you go with ivy bridge, i5 3570k). Gigabyte and Asus are my favorites probably by far to go with. Asrock I hear is a hit or miss as their quality control can be inconsistent. MSI is a decent cheaper alternative.

Hard Drive: Mechanical drive I would go with Western digital blacks as they are very fast. A good thing to try is a Western Digital Raptor 10000rpm drive with an SSD (Get a Samsung 840).

PSU: This is easy, if you're going with a single gpu setup, honestly a quality 450-550 watt psu is all that's needed as pc components have gotten much more power efficient over the years. Brands to go with are: Pc power & cooling, corsair, seasonic, antec, enermax, rosewill capstone line, kingwin platinum series. I personally would go with gold modular as you get the best of both worlds: good power efficiency and using only the cables you need, which means less clutter and easier cable management inside the case.

Hope this helps!

This is all good, but I think going into actual product names is a bit unnecessary. What I do is check deal websites, neweggs deal page (http://promotions.newegg.com/NEemail/latest/index-landing.aspx), amazon, and some other sites and just look for whats on sale and then screen the reviews for blatant issues or incompatibility (learn to ignore people who claim the product doesnt work, they usually are idiots). After you have a general idea for what you want (I want a midcase, 450W PSU thats quiet, 2TB of HDD and maybe a 128GB SSD, a radeon 7850/7950, an i5-3570k, 8 bars of ram) go ahead and just buy them when they go on sale, no point in not being patient if your laptop isn't dying. Just Don't cheap out on the motherboard though, it's the heart of your computer, but I will say stick to the deals plan. Deals are great and only idiots pay full price for anything above 100. After that, learn how to overclock your CPU, sandy bridge is ez overclock and the GPU is just naturally good.

Ever since the radeon price cuts there is almost no point in not buying a 7850/7950, they are cheaper and better than their nvidia counterparts, don't get nvidia really.

EDIT: And don't be an idiot and never replace peripherals! While all the above stuff is GREAT don't ever forget about buying a really accurate mouse at a good price (http://www.esreality.com/index.php?a=post&id=2024663) if you ever see it and maybe a mechanical/cherrymx keyboard somewhere down the line. any monitor works great (only idiots make a big deal about 1680 vs 1920, smaller monitors beware though) and theyre easy to get used, just remember that people will sometimes be gaylords and rip you off. 120hz monitors are too overpriced right now, let it drop or wait for a drop itself.

#51 Opinion on Mice? in Hardware

G400 is a little bit weird for my taste, I just love the feel of my deathadder and its almost perfect. It just grimes up really easily and the first one I got had an issue where the cord braid would "saw" itself on my wood desk edge back at home but luckily this one does not. But the razer cloud settings are actually really cool when you go to friends' houses and the mouse is really light, lighter than the 400. on top of that the dpi is really gud and i click people. the new software firmware allows you to even disable the logo when your monitor is off n shit.

@x3i4n #50 don't buy a blackwidow, it's a hunk of mechanical trash and you should look for better ones (ducky, mechanicalkeyboards.com, filco, daskeyboards, that CM one). Definitely true ricer, the only thing decent about it is the backlight.

#3 I made a blog-thing for new roamers in Mentoring

This is great, I appreciated the commentary even as a non-new player. If you ever need a person to help demonstrate something, let me know bud.

I'd also love to hear your thoughts on offclassing and opportune times (not exactly for me, just generally something a roamer should know)

wrecks me/others in pugna, and was a pleasure to play with when I did. Good movement control.

#21 Started a new 6s Team! Lots of questions in Q/A Help
swiperIf you guys know your rollouts, have acceptable dm, have played lobbies/pugs before, and have someone with more experience to help you out, you should be able to look for low scrims in IRC. My first team did that and we were fine (granted we received a lot of help from better players who we shared a mumble with). Just don't get too put off when you lose to better teams, or when higher-level/pug teams scrim you and troll with stupid offclassing and stuff. You might get a bunch of bad scrims at first because you don't know who people are, but eventually you'll figure out which teams you should get scrims with.

I guess if you're REALLY inexperienced you could try scrimming steel teams, but you'll get better faster if you get low-Open scrims in IRC and have a mentor to help you out.

yea, good point. if you don't have a team leader who knows what he's leading, get a team mentor (much easier to find than individual mentors).

#20 Started a new 6s Team! Lots of questions in Q/A Help

1. regardless of what you see on #tf2scrim people just usually search by ESEA open rating which is kind of retarded since "rating" is just a mucked up version of how confident they are in their ability, not what they actually play. But if you want to find a scrim on your level just put in "UGC Steel team yours 6v6" in tf2scrim and wait for a response. of course scrims only go down later in the day at around primetime, and if saying UGC steel doesn't work, try low open since its like the same thing. Yours indicates whose server you want to play on (change to yours/ours later when you get one), and 6v6 indicates you aren't looking to play a highlander team.

2. always go central, it's not a preference thing, it's more of a team thing. While you might be based on the west coast, a lot of teams are based on the east coast and in most cases no one is willing to compromise more than 50% for a server. just go with dallas, i believe its a better ping than chicago though i might be wrong

3. look up "adam skyride mge tutorials" and look at how they play those maps, it's been years since they've been made but little has changed. Meta always revolves around medic as always, and you needing uber to push into things. if you smash mid, take 2nd fast and consider pushing last if your med has uber and their med died, otherwise use the idea of picking (killing someone on their team) to insure that when you engage a team you're in an advantage. if you don't know what to do, push off uber opportunities. its a good start.
