#94 esa lan thanks thread in TF2 General Discussion

Also shoutout to the other Sami (ESA staff guy) for being super patient with all us open bracket players and answering every question when we were salty about having to get shuffled around. He said, "I do this literally every event. I just wanna make sure that all of the communities are happy." What a champ.

I don't know their names, but white beanie computer support guy and the volunteers were also fuckin indispensable.

Huuuge thank you to Moof for giving me and a billion other people rides to and from airports and the arena... and also to her and falking for just making it possible for me to attend LAN in the first place.

We wanted to get a full-team picture at Rewind, but by the time we remembered to do it, it was just Morin and me left at the venue. So, here's just the Fat-Ass Bears combo. ᕕʕ •ₒ• ʔ୨

#422 TF2 Rewind LAN at Esports Arena - Jan 21-22 in LAN Discussion

Yo, does anyone who's going have an extra modmic stick-on attachment thing that they could bring? I've used both of mine, and I wanna attach my mic to a different pair of headphones than I usually use. I will buy u a drink (not alcohol if you're underage).

Edit: friend had one. :)

#22 irl friends in Off Topic

I'm a bit of a loner by preference irl, so my closest friends are generally people who are like that too. Once I've known someone a while, we just hang out one on one every couple of months or so, or more rarely play Catan with each others' significant others or something.

My friends are typically pretty unusual or just really different from me, but we can still relate well on a human level. I've known my best friend since we were 11-ish (we're 24 and 25 now), and she's been goth the whole time... because literally her entire immediate family is goth, like The Addams Family raided a thrift shop. My other closest friend at the moment is pretty politically radical and uses an encrypted, paranoid version of everything--email, text, whatever--so I use those things to be in touch with him. He likes to push books on me. The books are good. The friends are good.

#6 Rewind lan swap meet thread in LAN Discussion

Selling Logitech G400 mouse $20. Buttons all work. The only issue is that the insulation is coming away from the USB end a bit. The wires are intact--it just needs some electrical tape or shrink tubing or something.

#1 PSA: new way to cancel recurrence on paypal in TF2 General Discussion

When I went to cancel a recurring premium payment, I noticed that if you click on the transaction, it doesn't have the link to the payment profile anymore. I'm not sure if this site redesign is rolled out for everyone, but here is how I found the profile again:

Click the settings gear in the top right, then go to Payments, then hit "Manage pre-approved payments." This should bring up a list of your subscriptions. Click the one from Turtle Entertainment Online, Inc., and it's the same from there.

For those of you who are new to ESEA, click Cancel under "Recurring Payments details." This will cancel the recurrence, but not the payment you just made.

idk why I even paid up premium this early. I meant to just pay my league fees, but I have no brain.

#84 Timing items instead of banning them in TF2 General Discussion

Mocha, here just a few arguments against the idea:

1) Timing weapons out every round doesn't reduce the extent to which they're cancerous while they're in play.

2) It reduces the tactical nature of mids. You're talking about having a timer for every round where they expire, but that means that every weapon is available at every single midfight. Increasing the number of RNG or massive-damage-for-no-reason items available at the midfight increases the incentive to have your med bait and just mindlessly run into theirs and decide rounds quickly.

3) People have talked for a long time about TF2 being boring or difficult to understand as a spectator esport. Knowing when a weapon is available or not adds this dimension that would make it even harder to watch or for new players to get into.

4) It seems like it wouldn't make sense to have a timer for *both* teams on every item since the other team could deprive you of the chance to use one if you don't decide to run it right away. That means that you don't know when the other team's couple of minutes is up unless someone is keeping track of every weapon they've seen the others use that round. It introduces this fairly large drain of brainpower that is going to no use except to enable use of items no one wants to play around anyway.

5) You seem to think it would be simple to repurpose the code used for item rentals to time out items. You're wrong.

#119 Global Whitelist Lists Post-Meeting in TF2 General Discussion
Moist_PenguinThere were several factors, we wanted to wait till after the christmas update incase there were any balance changes in that, then combined with Christmas, new years and just finding an agreeable time for most parties is why it happens now.

That's understandable, but you're talking about inevitable post-meeting adjustments anyway, so it's not like this was ever going to be accomplished in one go. It's easy to criticize as someone who wasn't involved, but I think giving the community more time would have been a positive thing even with an impending update.

#114 Global Whitelist Lists Post-Meeting in TF2 General Discussion

Why didn't this meeting happen at the *beginning* of the off season? I'm pretty sure y'all remember that people were kind of annoyed when you did the exact same thing throwing changes at people at the last minute before S23. If you really want to give people time to experiment, can you plan a little further in advance next time?

Don't get me wrong--I've been a little out of the loop, and I'm grateful to the people who care enough about TF2's future to organize and attend these meetings. But S23 ended early in December. Why wait?

Also, a store that's here in Portland (and LA I think?) has a Sea Salt with Caramel Ribbons flavor that's pretty fantastic.
