Any Roamers Still Use the Shotty?

I know back in the day there really wasn't any other option, but I keep hearing of a few soldiers who still roam with the shotgun. I know how viable gunboats can be, but honestly is there really any good examples of players with this style being effective anymore?

DeepOK, this is really funny. Tested it with the whip, it works.
This means I can kill myself, wait for respawn in 14 or so seconds and during that time whip my entire team by switching cameras. This is absolutely incredible.
Process behind this:
Step 1: Make sure you're using whip.
Step 2: Bind KEY "slot3; +attack; explode"
Step 3: Make sure you're able to hit the ground while dead.
Step 4: Switch between cameras and whip your entire team.

I cant seem to get it to work, I switch weapons and use that bind right at the same time. I'm not sure whats up with that.
