Anything is possible. If you're a team with awesome attitudes and willing to listen to one another.
But one thing I will not stand for is replacing another medic. I would rather sit out in a season then replace someone else who a team could have worked with in the beginning, especially in open. That's the time to learn.
But in all honesty I am more open to playing demo/soldier/scout to help newer teams learn the game.
