Idea for promoting competitive TF2

So I had a chat with the eGO highlander team today, and mentioned the thought of setting up a day where I got a couple of higher level competitive players to come and play a couple pugs with them, hang out in mumble with them while they played, kinda like the Newbie Mixes but they pretty much know what they are doing already. Just an idea of simply being involved with a couple players they watch regularly and look up to in the competitive world. I think this would be a great way to help encourage more players to work harder or even just get involved with competitive TF2.

P.S. When I mentioned the idea of getting a couple players to come play with them for a night they immediately were saying "Get us Huey Lewis or get us stabby, those guys are awesome."

There are plenty of lower level players that look up to the higher level players, and this would be a great way to help out the competitive side of being watched and supported.

They can play with those guys on #pugnahl. I think that channel has a lot of platinum players in it and anyone can join.

The problem with that is that the skill level in that IRC channel is really really skewed and having new players play with Plat players in a serious pug usually doesn't end well, both because of ragers and because the new players won't know what exactly to do without being told.

Also I think the hardest thing about the newer players playing in the #pugnahl is that the majority of them will take a while to get involved in the mix regularly. Instead they are looking to have fun instead of being super serious all the time, which is why I'd suggest trying to set something up once or twice a month, and having some of the high level players volunteer to participate and make it open to anyone interested just to come play and have fun, meet the players and what not. Even maybe sign a few items for the players, I know of a couple people that really are interested in getting items signed by top level players, and they would gladly provide the items to do so.
