DeathyI like the Battlepacks idea. Sounds like crates a bit, but you don't have to pay anything to unbox them. I got lucky in my first one and got a Green Laser Sight :D

How do you use/open them?

You gotta be in a game. Press esc then click on 'Battlepacks' and there'll be a button called 'Open Battlepack' or something. Of course, you need to have one available. (You get one at lvl 3, lvl 5, lvl 7 and other lvls I think)

Yeah, I got one once I hit 3. Received a green laser sight, a Chinese RDS for the AK-12 and a weapon camo.

So, I've played the beta a reasonable amount since the 1st and there is a whole bunch of annoying stuff that I really hope is changed on the final release. It's probably just my aim, but trying to hit infantry with a tank's rockets is seemingly a lot harder than it is in BF3. That coupled with how many bullets it actually takes to kill infantry with the MG, it's incredibly annoying to try and save yourself from a suicide sniper.

Lock-on RPG is a dumb idea but it's pretty fun to do. I'm pretty, definitely sure that won't be possible on the final release. At least it's a possibility judging off of a tweet from one of the dev employees. Sniping in general is wonky. Why recon gets C4 is beyond me. I'm pretty sure this is how it was in BFBC2, but that doesn't mean I have to like it. The sniping itself is weird. Bullet drop off doesn't seem to exist until a much further distance. And maybe something was bugging out, but around an hour so I was trying to snipe this stationary target and the bullet and tracer were directly hitting the other player, who mind you wasn't lagging out or anything, and not once did I receive a hitmarker. It made no sense whatsoever.

The AK-12 is was too accurate. It's so incredibly precise. It gets less noticeable at extreme ranges, but anywhere between medium to longx1.5 range it's ridiculous. So far I'm not too fond of the engineer's first primary. The XM4 or something? It's an SMG so I can't really complain about its low ammo count, but it shoots way too quickly and it's the least accurate gun that we can use right now. RPGing tanks takes way too many shots when ammo packs don't regen explosives. Everything else dies reasonably quick with RPGs however. The support class is overall fine, but I've never really been a huge support guy as it doesn't make me feel like I'm contributing to much.

The only other thing that bothers me, which probably won't see a change, is how much the map allows recon players to get away with shit. So many buildings they can snipe from that are like a billion feet high and don't have elevators to access up there. It sucks when your team's helis are too busy focusing on less important infantry or aren't shooting anyone. And even the buildings with elevators is a risk because chances are they're sitting right there waiting for that door to open with either a C4 or their primary. Elevators are a cool concept but executed poorly on this map.

From my personal experience, the snipers really aren't that annoying if you have snipers in your team as well. For the ak-12, it is indeed pretty much the best weapon in the beta, and will probably still be the best weapon in the final release. As for the MX4, I can tell it's really powerful on domination but hard to play with on Conquest Large considering how big the map is. Of course, that'll change in the final release with 9 other maps out.

Just played it a little bit, looks like 5% better then BF3.

Same issues all around again. Tanks just make you want to cut your own throat.

Doesn't really look amazing or anything. Feels like it's a CoD game(New game which should be a DLC).

imo it appears to be a less gritty, less immersive bf3. that isn't to say that I won't enjoy it, but it makes me crave a bad company 3 even more.

thumbs up. thx for the recommendation dudes. bf4 is way too much fun -- i ended up playing for 12 hrs straight after downloading it. might even buy the game on release.

it's definitely a game that gets more fun with friends so hopefully some other people pick it up too. if you do, let me know!

Bolsheviki have heard that using the drivers (nvidia) from before the beta ones they just released helped with performance. did this work for anyone?

Beta drivers didn't work at all for me. The 320.49 drivers worked great though. 50-60 fps with occasional dips to 40 fps on a gtx 660 with high settings.

Yesterday there was intense lag and everyone was rubberbanding around . I heard it was an issue with punkbuster. It seemed to get better towards the end of the day though.

it's probably gonna be like that for awhile. if you recall the bf3 beta was pretty shit (not as bad performance wise though) but it got ironed out at release, and optimization improved steadily the first few weeks.

After playing for a week, and getting some of the kinks worked out, i'm starting to enjoy it more now. The only thing that kind of annoys me is the randomness of the shots you fire. I've have some of the most random headshots when they aren't even close, then other times i go through almost 20 rounds before i finish someone. I'm sure this is more than likely just the lag and will change once the game is gold. Netcode fixes always happen so i'm not too worried about it.

The map itself is a lot of fun. The fact that you can literally get onto any building and setup a camp forms some pretty interesting strats. I will say, definitely play with a friend...it makes it 100x more fun when you are playing with someone competent and can work with. yaug and i played for 3 hours straight this afternoon and i had a blast. Knowing you can count on someone for support/heals/comms etc etc makes a HUGE difference if you are just random pubbing in a BF game.

MR_SLINI'm curious to see if this game will have a comp scene. from what I've ears BF3's comp scene was pretty small.

I would love to play comp BF4 if there was a good system. Part of the problem is the maps are enormous, so even having teams of 8v8 wouldn't work out. 16v16 would be ideal so you could form offensive/defensive squads of 4 and split up for capture/holds. I guess the biggest issue with that is actually finding 16 people to be dedicated to a team...especially in a time of when "the smaller the better" seems to be the norm.

32v32 in theory could be a lot of fun, but a few of the 64 man servers i've played on seem to be a complete cluster fuck....too many people will take the team element out of the game. Though, some battles would be epic with that many people.

New update out. New Obliteration game mode. Don't quite get it yet, jumped in half way. I think you have to plant a bomb 3 different times on 3 different bombsites within the other team's half of the map.

Free dog tags too (for guns not even in the beta). Not sure what else is in this update.

Well phaser in BF3 they had comp, it was domination I think. Small teams.

I read something online that said that they're going to try to support a comp scene by making a 5v5 scenario.

Comp BF4 will exist. The only reason why the comp BF3 scene was small was because there was no demo recorder and no spectator mode. Think what competitive TF2 would be like without demos and stv?

Players getting banned left right and center for cheating when there is no way of proving it (could just be good), but also players hacking with no way of proving that they cheat. Streams would be the only way to watch a match online (when TF2 was released there wasn't much streaming going on at all).

Battlefield 4 has addressed these issues. They have designed the game a little more for competitive, making squad sizes 5 instead of 4, adding spec, and I assume... battlerecorder. The game will be played 5vs5 but like every battlefield series (and a bit like TF2 highlander) there will be a larger competitive game consisting of anywhere between 8 and 12 players. The 5vs5 games will most likely be infantry only while the larger mode will be vehicle based.

Yeah. I've been playing the beta and it's mad fun but I watched a bit of Call of Duty and it made me wonder...Is there really a difference between 5v5 BF4 and 4v4 COD? Besides the platform it doesn't seem like that much of a difference.

MR_SLINYeah. I've been playing the beta and it's mad fun but I watched a bit of Call of Duty and it made me wonder...Is there really a difference between 5v5 BF4 and 4v4 COD? Besides the platform it doesn't seem like that much of a difference.

The feel of Battlefield vs Call of Duty is completely different, plus Call of Duty (since Black Ops 2 at least) uses killstreaks.

It would make sense for the 5v5 ladders to be infantry only and on domination as there aren't any helis/jets & vehicles. Though Rush w/o tanks, LAVs, jets and helis and only 4x4s sounds like it could be fun.

Slin, to answer your question, yes and no. Yes there's a difference when you consider the fact that at the core, both games themselves are extremely different. So naturally that will play a part in how they're different. And I only say no because they might be playing rush in the competitive scene, which is almost 100% identical to CoD's Search and Destroy, with the only major difference being that you have to destroy a set of two bombsites 3 different times, whereas with SnD you only have to successfully explode the bombsite/successfully defuse the bomb w/ a round limit of like 12 or 14 (don't remember, but there are a shit ton of rounds).
