Mumble overlay in TF2 always broken

Ever since a few months ago, a little after the steampipe update, my mumble overlay basically becomes bolded and makes it really hard to use.

At the beginning of launch, I see my normal overlay display for a few seconds, and then the screen flickers and it turns into that.

Does anyone know what is causing this? I've tried -autoexec and removing my hud, but nothing seems to be working. I have a feeling it's something in my fps config or binds config, so I'm about to work my way down the entire list.

I remember this happening before when using the mat_disable_d3d9ex command, but I'm not sure what's causing it this time ?_?

I searched for mumble threads and googled it, but nothing came up

thanks for any help

mat_antialias will do that. Just comment it out of your autoexec.

mat_dxlevel will do the same, and probably -dxlevel in the launch options.

Once you apply those settings, they should stay until you change them so removing them shouldn't have any effect.
