#23 paper tower in Off Topic
brownymasterwwalrusin an elective in hs,wwalrusgrades are too importantAnd you're in a high school elective. I find that kinda funny. Is this some super intense private school?

if it shows up on my transcript, i'm going to make sure to get a good grade. nah, it's a public school, but i care about grades, and my parents will kill me if i dont do well.

BenkThe point of the project is to practice critical thinking and problem solving, yet you're asking us.

Oh well it's a pretty silly assignment anyways. I'm surprised you actually get a quantitative grade based on the height. Considering the goal is for you to brainstorm and think outside the box, the student with the tallest tower didn't necessarily learn the most. He probably just researched what the best design was.

I understand what you're saying. However, grades are too important to not to outside research- note that I came up with a design at first, then asked people what they would do.

brownymasterAlso, I still think 8-9 feet is ridiculous for an assignment. Here's a 5-6 feet one I found on youtube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=30pGTeFBBY

Their idea is actually pretty similar to what I've been doing. The 3-part base is a good idea, i'll probably change mine to be more similar to what they did.

I can use any other objects to do whatever i want to the paper/tape, but the actual tower can only be tape and paper

EDIT: and freestanding

#1 paper tower in Off Topic

in an elective in hs, about engineering, our first assignment was this: create a tower out of 1 sheet of paper (11x8.5) and 6 inches of tape (i may be mistaken, it might be 12 inches).

each inch the tower comes off the ground=1 point. the assignment is out of 100 points, so ideally i'd get something between 8 and 9 feet tall.

Any ideas as to how to do this? you can deduce a certain amount about what the tower will look like based on what a perfect score would be. you'd need 9 separate cuts of the paper length-wise. What I will do, so far, is cut larger pieces at first for the base, then progressively smaller, and then i'd roll them into circles. this works, although i dont think i'll get a decent height without it leaning over.

so yeah, any ideas?

this episode was unquestionably one of the better ones in the series, imo. unfortunate that dexter runs at the same time though, have to decide between one or watch the other during commercials. ;_;

why are people -fragging? this is a legitimate question, although the answer is pretty clear. people are literally just -fragging every question that might genuinely be curious about why the meta is the meta

TwitchTVJohnthe peak concurrent viewership doesn't mean anything. There's tons of other metrics that are for more important. (avg time watched per unique viewer, total unique viewers, etc)

TF2 has grown a lot more than most anyone here realizes.

is there anywhere where we can see these statistics?

Keyhey as long as the game grows, right?

But the game barely grew. an increase in 1K every single year is pretty much nothing.

#8 i52 in TF2 General Discussion

from a practical point of view, is it worth doing i52? there was a small increase in viewership for the grand finals (5.5K->6.3K at peak afaik). besides the entertainment we get from watching the tournament, which is valid reasoning, is it actually worth it?

EDIT: just checked the other thread and from what a few people say between 6.5 and 6.8K

#20 What's the highest viewer count so far? in Esports
skyrideThis. i46 peaked at 5500

So the growth between i46 and i49 was pretty negligible. that sucks.
