#17 What recourses do new tf2 players need to learn? in TF2 General Discussion

part of the problem is that a lot of trash talk is deserved. in an extreme example, if i told soapy how better to play roamer, he should shut me the fuck down.

players with their legacy cemented by the top100 list generally don't get that much lip, but outside of those ppl, we are fighting verbal wars to see who deserves any respect.

what if we all deserve respect. we have the perfect thing to settle our disputes: the match server

Jakey I feel like pointing that out would only go over peoples heads or make them think our community is especially worse than others which isn’t really true, it’s just smaller.

I agree it might go over people's heads, so i'm advocating to a "lets warn newbies at the very least" sort of thing. Like the RGL sucks guy who just posted could have used a warning before being tossed into the jungle.

DoughyOr just don't be disgustingly toxic? The community is so small that everyone knows everyone around their skill level anyway. It's not just random online toxicity, it IS more targeted. If some random tells me "kys" i'll just chuckle since I'll never see him again, if someone i'm forced to play with constantly keeps saying shit I just won't want to play the game.Jakeyour community is especially worse than others which isn’t really true, it’s just smaller

Hurts to say, but because of developer neglect, I think that our community is a little worse that average. I played CSGO at university collegiate level. Collegiate level essentially means that the teams aren't as good (most uni's have at most 1-2 players that might go semipro, most teams ~esea open), but it also means that the older players (college seniors, like me) make sure everyone treats their enemies with respect, like in soccer. Anyone who played team sports as kid knows that everything is more fun when you treat your opponents with respect.

The experience of "someone i'm forced to play with constantly is continually ruthlessly talking shit to me" is not uncommon in the slightest, but it in other communities its completely unheard of.

smesithe only correct way to do a video introduction to comp tf2 is to recite long term nuclear waste warning messages

I honestly think it would benefit new players to know that the main reward for winning/getting better is bragging rights, so inevitably it is a bit toxic. Like the new guy who posted yesterday after rgl pugs and was smacked in the head with it

Not to derail thread too much, but I think new players deserve a warning.
It's not a horrible thing either, most team sports have a toxic side. look at how ppl get into fistfights in baseball and it's fun asf

Spam control. In this video almost every decision he is making is based on where/when the spam is. https://youtu.be/XIx-lse-dBE . If you watch a g6 game they also have very coordinated spam

#3 tf2 arch crashing in Q/A Help

Try to launch tf2 from command line and see what it prints to terminal when it crashes. Not sure exactly how to launch from terminal but I'm sure it's possible. Then your next bet is to ask on arch or r/linuxgaming forum

#30 teaching people how to play 6s in TF2 General Discussion

I would put in some money as a sort of bounty to make content like this (any of the suggestions above).. A little crude but I don't have the time/knowledge to make any of them.

wooshi think shorter videos, like the ones shounic makes would be better for new comp players. i don't think many new players who are unsure about whether they want to play comp want to watch a 40 minute unedited video about a single aspect of 6s

This is why grape juice's line-theory video is so good, we need like 10 more of these explaining other fundamentals.

also a video like this would work perfectly: someone explaining passionately the storyline of a tournament to an outsider: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oyEAeWKqX-0 .

The storyline of the split of froyo and the competitive top 3 was super compelling last season, and the old/new generation thing. There are so many epic stories untold/undocumented in this game...
