After downloading the preset mentioned above,start steam in offline and join tr_walkway and exit,now you can play pre -jungle inferno demos with no crashes.

Pre Jungle Inferno Demos (through Steam)

I've launched the game using the branch you mentioned but the game still crashes at exact tick, im trying to play the demo with the "pre-release" branch, will let you know if it's any good.
UPDATE:start steam in offline mode after downloading the "pre-jungle inferno demos" branch,join tr_walkway and play any class and exit, now you can play pre-jungle inferno demos with no problem.

Even I'm having this problem, one of my demos is just crashing at certain tick and another demo is getting "bad inline model number 128" error.
